New Stoke City manager Mark Robins said he plans on taking the club back to the Premier League after a six-and-a-half-year absence.

In his first press conference as the Potters boss, Robins outlined his ambitions with the club currently sitting four points above the Championship relegation places.

"I really would like to manage in the Premier League before I retire. I turned 55 at Christmas, so, I'm really hungry." Robins told BBC Radio Stoke ahead of his first official match in charge against Plymouth Argyle on Saturday.

"When this opportunity came up, once I met [club owner] John Coates and [sporting director] Jon Walters, it just confirmed what I thought and what my feelings were.

"They are die-hard Stoke City supporters, and the Stoke supporters - I'm really looking forward to working for them. I think it's a really good fit for me."

Robins returns to a Championship dugout after being sacked by Coventry City in November following a seven-year spell in Warwickshire, which brought two promotions, an EFL Trophy victory, an FA Cup semi-final, and a Championship play-off final.

"I have a list in my head, and its not a very long list, about clubs and owners that I'd like to work for and with.

"Stoke City's one of them - John Coates and the Coates family are renowned in football and I'm really looking forward to working with them and for them."

Following on from his previous successes, Robins confirmed he would not try and replicate the blueprint he brought forward during his time as Coventry boss.

"Each club's unique," he said. "What you can't do is [say], 'I did this there,' and, 'I'm going to repeat that there,' because they're two totally different cities, different clubs, different environments, different stages of development - it is in that sense totally different."

He added: "I'm really confident that, given time, we can turn this around and move this forward. That's my skillset and that's why I'm at Stoke City.

"Having lost my job on 7 November, I needed that period of time to get it out of my system because I was all in at Coventry and now I'm all in somewhere else.

"I'm all in and I really want to get my teeth into this - I really want to move this forward."

Whilst looking forward to the future, Robins also noted the importance of understanding the identity and culture of a club which still has fond memories of a decade's worth of Premier League football between 2008 and 2018.

"This is a club that has aspirations to go into the Premier League. Ultimately, we have to understand the club and move it forward. That's what I'm tasked with.

"We need everyone aligned. This club's motto is 'United strength is stronger' - never has that been truer."

Celtic have held talks to re-sign their former defender Kieran Tierney on a pre-contract deal from Arsenal.

The 27-year-old left Celtic in 2019 for a reported £25m fee but Arsenal are ready to let him leave at the end of his contract, with his career in English football having been blighted by injuries.

Amid interest from Celtic and a host of other clubs in Europe, it remains unclear whether Arsenal will let Tierney leave on loan in January before making any move permanent in the summer.

But there is a lot of goodwill towards Tierney in north London, with the Scotland international considered a model professional.

Tierney has made 125 appearances for Arsenal over the course of his five-year contract, which included a loan spell at Real Sociedad, with his last appearance coming in the Carabao Cup quarter-final victory against Crystal Palace in December.

However, he has also suffered 10 injuries, including shoulder and knee injuries which required surgery to fix, and a serious hamstring injury in June.

Incredible Luke Littler etched his name into darting history with a crushing 7-3 victory over Michael van Gerwen to become the youngest ever PDC World Championship winner.

The 17-year-old was in unstoppable form as he raced into a 4-0 lead, and despite Van Gerwen getting three sets on the board, he never really threatened a comeback and was always in Littler's rear mirror.

Van Gerwen was the previous youngest champion when he won the first of his three world titles in 2014 aged 24, but darting phenomenon Littler smashed that record just as easily as he dealt with the Dutchman on the Alexandra Palace stage.

Warrington teenager Littler averaged just over 102 and threw 12 180s in a darting masterclass as he claimed the £500,000 first prize and lifted the Sid Waddell Trophy for the first time.

With the way he handled the pressure of being the favourite and the manner of his performances still three weeks short of his 18th birthday, it surely is just the first of many.

Littler was pipped by Luke Humphries in last year's final and when the world number one went out in the fourth round this year, the trophy looked to be there for the taking.

Van Gerwen has not been at his best this season but facing a three-time winner appearing in his seventh final still represented a tough test for the youngster.

Littler is not built like your average darts player though, and he showed no signs of nerves when racing into that 4-0 lead - albeit helped by some dodgy finishing by Van Gerwen.

The 35-year-old was scoring well but either missed darts at doubles or failed to even get down to a shot at the outer ring - which resulted in him winning just three legs in those first four sets.

Van Gerwen finished with a 100 average himself and one more 180 than Littler with 13, but hitting just 14 of 38 on his doubles was never going to cut it against the game's new superstar.

Blackburn Rovers' 15-year wait for a win over Lancashire rivals Burnley will go on as Zian Flemming's diving header gave the Clarets all three points in an ultimately disappointing derby at Ewood Park.

The Dutchman's fourth goal of the season stretched Burnley's unbeaten league run to 13 games and consolidates their second place in the Championship table.

Neither side managed a shot on target in a tepid first period with Rovers' Amario Cozier-Duberry seeing one effort deflected over and another, which was heading wide, saved by James Trafford.

Burnley came out with more intent at the start of the second half and got themselves in front on the hour as Flemming's powerful diving header from Bashir Humphreys' cross beat Aynsley Pears in the Blackburn goal.

New Stoke City manager Mark Robins had to settle for a point from his first game in charge as the Potters were held to a goalless draw by Championship bottom side Plymouth Argyle.

Stoke are now unbeaten in three games since the sacking of Spaniard Narcis Pelach on 27 December.

Managerless Argyle have now drawn two games under caretaker bosses Kevin Nancekivell and Joe Edwards since Wayne Rooney left the club on New Year's Eve.

But, while the Devon side remain winless on their travels, this was still only their third away point of the campaign and only their second clean sheet.

And they have already made their first big signing of the January window in Ghana midfielder Michael Baidoo for a club-record undisclosed fee from Swedish side Elfsborg.

Filmmaker Jeff Baena, the husband of actress Aubrey Plaza, has died aged 47, according to US media reports.

His body was discovered by an assistant at his Los Angeles home on Friday morning, where he was later pronounced dead, the reports say.

The American director, best known for films The Little Hours, Life After Beth and Joshy, married Ms Plaza in 2021.

The family told Deadline they were "devastated" and asked for privacy at this difficult time.

Ms Plaza, 40, star of TV series The White Lotus and Parks and Recreation, has not yet commented publicly on the death of her husband.

The circumstances of his death remain unclear.

Mr Baena graduated from New York University with a degree in film before moving to LA to pursue directing.

He worked in production under filmmakers Robert Zemeckis and David O'Russell, before breaking away to make his own films.

He made his directorial debut in 2014 with the release of the zombie comedy film Life After Beth, which featured Plaza.

The pair would go on to collaborate on several projects.
