Argentina legend Lionel Messi will join American side Inter Miami after his exit from French champions Paris St-Germain.

The former Barcelona forward is set to reject a more lucrative offer from Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal.

The Miami deal includes collaboration from brands like Adidas and Apple.

Messi, 35, won the Ballon d'Or award for the world's best player seven times and is expected to win it later this year after World Cup success.

This is the first time Barcelona icon Messi has played outside Europe.

He was keen on a return to Barcelona this summer but the Financial Fair Play (FFP) limitations that will be in place for next season in La Liga made any ambitious plan to bring him back an impossibility.

Paris St-Germain won Ligue 1 in both his seasons at the club but went out in the Champions League last 16, which means his time in France was not seen as a huge success.

He netted 32 goals in 75 games for the club - and ended this season with 16 goals and 16 assists in Ligue 1.

Messi's two-year contract comes to an end this summer and both parties agreed to go their separate ways, with the forward suspended for two weeks in May for an unauthorised trip to Saudi Arabia.

His legacy comes from his time at Barcelona and winning the World Cup with Argentina in December.

He left Barca in 2021, after 21 years with the club, because of the club's financial problems.

Messi is Barcelona's record scorer with 672 goals and won 10 La Liga titles, four Champions Leagues and seven Spanish Cups.

Tributes are pouring in for WWE legend 'The Iron Sheik' after his death at the age of 81.

The wrestler, real name Hossein Khosrow Ali Vaziri, was born in Iran but became a global superstar in the 1980s, winning the WWF World Heavyweight Championship in 1983.

Previously he competed on Iran's Greco-Roman wrestling team at the 1968 Summer Games, and later won a national AAU title in 1971 after moving to the United States.

But it was when he made the transition to the fledgling WWF in 1979 that he became an international superstar, along with the likes of Hulk Hogan, Jesse 'The Body' Ventura, and Andre 'The Giant' Roussimoff.

Confirming the news on Twitter, his family paid tribute to 'a true legend, a force of nature, and an iconic figure who left an incredible mark on the world of professional wrestling.' A cause of death has not been released.

'WWE is saddened to hear of the passing of WWE Hall of Famer The Iron Sheik, and extends its condolences to his family, friends, and fans,' read a tweet from the circuit formerly known as the WWF.

The Iron Sheik made his way to theatrical wrestling after being invited to train at promoter Verne Gagne’s gym in the early 1970s. It was there that the barrel-chested, 6-foot, 250-pound Vaziri learned the business and soon began working as a trainer. He even taught the likes of Ricky Steamboat, Greg Gagne and Jim Brunzell.

Following in the footsteps of a previous wrestler known as ‘The Sheik,’ Vaziri became a heel – another word for ‘bad guy’ – and quickly caught the eye of the World Wrestling Federation.

He’d go on to win the first ever Battle Royal at Madison Square Garden before bouncing around to several rival circuits, and eventually finding a home with the WWF.

Known as the tag-team partner of Nikolai Volkoff, Sheik became a Wrestlemania staple and one of the biggest stars in the sport.

He was arrested with ‘Hacksaw’ Jim Duggan in 1987, and ultimately received probation for cocaine possession, but he continued in the sport until his unofficial retirement in the early 1990s.

In recent years, the Iron Sheik has reintroduced himself to a new generation of fans though a somewhat satirical Twitter page.

Although he wasn't believed to have been posting, personally, it was operated with his name and apparent blessing, using his crass, belligerent, and often profane vernacular.

'WHOEVER LET THE DOGS OUT CAN GO F*** YOURSELF,' read one recent post, which is emblematic of his Twitter persona.

'F*** THE LITTLE HOUSE ON THE PRAIRIE,' read another.

The Iron Sheik's family released a statement on his Twitter account Wednesday.

'Today, we gather with heavy hearts to bid farewell to a true legend, a force of nature, and an iconic figure who left an incredible mark on the world of professional wrestling,' read the posthumous tweet.

West Ham ended their 43-year wait for a major trophy as Jarrod Bowen scored a last-minute goal to beat Fiorentina and win the Europa Conference League in Prague.

The final seemed to be heading for extra time after Said Benrahma's second-half penalty was cancelled out just seven minutes later by a well-taken effort from Giacomo Bonaventura.

It was a testy and sometimes bad tempered game - and at one point it got downright ugly as Fiorentina captain Cristiano Biraghi was struck by a plastic bottle thrown from the West Ham section.

The match was settled in the most dramatic manner.

Bowen timed his run to perfection as Lucas Paqueta slid a superb pass through the Fiorentina defence.

The England man ran free, steadied himself, then beat Pietro Terracciano with a calm finish to thrill the Hammers fans - who were far greater in number than the 5,000 tickets they were allotted - and send manager David Moyes running down the touchline to celebrate the first major silverware of his career.

It mean captain Declan Rice, in probably his final game for the club, emulated club greats Bobby Moore and Billy Bonds by leading the club to glory. Moore captained West Ham to the 1965 European Cup Winners' Cup and Bonds led them to the FA Cup in 1975 and 1980.

The victory also seals a place in next season's Europa League and means European football for the third year running for the first time in the club's history.

Rising interest rates are putting pressure on landlords, pushing some to consider selling up, surveyors say.

In turn, that could further squeeze the availability of rental properties and raise costs for tenants, according to the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS).

Some landlords are also considering their future due to proposals for a ban on no-fault evictions in England.

RICS said that "storm clouds have gathered" over the UK housing market.

Lenders predict the Bank of England will raise interest rates again because general price rises - as measured by inflation - are taking longer to slow down than previously anticipated.

Lerma, 28, has penned a three-year contract at Selhurst Park.

The midfielder started 37 Premier League games for Bournemouth in 2022-23, scoring five goals.

"I am very happy and excited by this new opportunity. I want to help with every objective the club has next season," Lerma said.

He spent five seasons with the Cherries, joining for a club-record £25m from La Liga side Levante in the summer of 2018.

He boasts a wealth of Premier League and international experience, having scored 12 goals in 99 top-flight appearances for Bournemouth, while playing 183 games in total for the Cherries.

Françoise Gilot - the former love and muse of Pablo Picasso - died aged 101 on Tuesday in New York City.

She was a prolific and acclaimed painter who produced art for well more than a half-century but was nonetheless more famous for her turbulent relationship with Picasso - and for leaving him.

Gilot's daughter, Aurelia Engel, told The Associated Press her mother had died at Mount Sinai West hospital after suffering both lung and heart problems.

'She was an extremely talented artist, and we will be working on her legacy and the incredible paintings and works she is leaving us with,' Engel said.

The French-born Gilot had long made her frustration clear that despite acclaim for her art, which she produced from her teenage years until five years ago, she would still be best known for her relationship with the older Picasso, whom she met in 1943 at age 21, his junior by four decades.

The Football Association of Ireland (FAI) has announced ambitious plans to invest 863m euro (£743m) to modernise the infrastructure of Irish football.

Investment will be sought over a 15-year period.

The FAI wants 47m euro (£40.4m) to upgrade its Abbotstown National Training Centre for its Republic of Ireland teams.

It also aims to spend 426m euros (£366m) at grassroots level and 390m euro (£335m) on the League of Ireland.

Unveiling its 'Facility Investment Vision and Strategy' on Thursday, the association said football in Ireland "has been under invested in for the last 25 years and we have fallen behind our European counterparts in facilities investment".

The FAI hopes to secure 517m euro (£445m) of funding from the Irish government, 173m euro (£149m) from local authorities such as educational bodies and health authorities and 173m euro from their own funding sources, including Fifa and Uefa.

It is also proposing the establishment of an independent 'Ireland Football Facility Fund' to ensure a "consistent, professional, and dedicated focus on facilities transformation for our game".

Dan Evans' grass-court campaign took an early blow as he suffered a surprise defeat in the second round of the Surbiton Trophy.

The British number one was beaten 7-5 6-2 by Canada's world number 146 Gabriel Diallo.

Top seed Evans had started his Wimbledon preparations early at the south London Challenger event after his first-round exit at the French Open.

Andy Murray, seeded second, plays in the quarter-finals on Saturday.

Elsewhere in Thursday's action, there were mixed results for Britain's women with Katie Boulter and Lily Miyazaki among those advancing to the quarter-finals.

Boulter, who could replace the injured Emma Raducanu as British number one next week, defeated compatriot Sonay Kartal 3-6 6-3 6-4, while Miyazaki beat Eden Silva 6-4 7-5 in another all-British affair.

Isabelle Lacy also progressed to the last eight without hitting a ball after her opponent Sachia Vickery withdrew, while Katie Swan advanced after Oceane Dodin retired injured with the Briton 5-3 up in the first set.

But there was defeat for British number four Harriet Dart, who lost 6-4 6-7 (5-7) 6-4 to Germany's Tatjana Maria.

Julian Assange has lost his appeal against extradition to the US on espionage charges.

The judgment was handed down privately on Monday at the High Court.

WikiLeaks founder Assange, 51, launched the appeal last June after then-Home Secretary Priti Patel signed an order authorizing his removal.

Yesterday his wife Stella said that he will appeal the decision. It will be Assange's last chance to overturn the ruling before his options in the UK courts are exhausted.

The Freedom of the Press Foundation said it was 'highly disappointed by the UK High Court's rejection of Julian Assange's appeal of his extradition to the United States on Espionage Act charges.'

Teenage West Ham United striker Callum Marshall, Larne forward Lee Bonis and Nottingham Forest defender Aaron Donnelly have been handed their first senior Northern Ireland call-ups.

The trio were selected for the upcoming Euro 2024 qualifier double-header against Denmark and Kazakhstan.

Defender Jonny Evans, relegated with Leicester City last season, returns and will likely be captain.

It was originally a 28-strong squad but Eoin Toal has pulled out with injury.

The Bolton Wanderers defender withdrew on Thursday with an ankle problem.

NI face Denmark in Copenhagen next Friday night in their third qualifier.

Michael O'Neill's side, who opened the campaign with a 2-0 victory away to San Marino in March before losing 1-0 to Finland in Belfast, then host Kazakhstan at Windsor Park on 19 June.

Steve Smith warned England they have "not come up against us yet" after Australia's pace attack ripped through India on day two of the World Test Championship final.

India were reduced to 151-5 in reply to Australia's 469 at The Oval a week before the Ashes series begins.

England have won 11 of their past 13 Tests in buccaneering fashion.

"I've enjoyed watching how they've played," said Smith. "We'll wait and see how it comes off against us."

England's spectacular form under captain Ben Stokes and coach Brendon McCullum is a stark contrast to their previous run of one win in 17 Tests, including a 4-0 defeat in the last Ashes in Australia.

England's turnaround has seen them score their runs at 4.85 an over, a whole run more than any other team in Test cricket in the same period.

But their 'Bazball' style has not come up against an attack with the quality of Australia, who put in a devastating display against the Indians.

On a pitch offering plenty of bounce and movement, each of Scott Boland, Cameron Green and Mitchell Starc produced magical deliveries to take wickets, while the India batters were pinned with a number of blows to the body.

"I said when Bazball started that I'm intrigued to see how it goes against our bowlers, I've said that all along," said former Australia captain Smith, 34.

"It will be difficult on this kind of pitch, which is up and down and seaming around. It's not easy to defend, let alone come out and swing.

"They've done well against some other attacks, but they haven't come up against us yet. We'll wait and see how it comes off against us."
