Nurse Lucy Letby has been found guilty of murdering seven babies on a neonatal unit, making her the UK's most prolific child serial killer in modern times.

The 33-year-old has also been convicted of trying to kill six other infants at the Countess of Chester Hospital between June 2015 and June 2016.

Letby deliberately injected babies with air, force fed others milk and poisoned two of the infants with insulin.

She refused to appear in the dock for the latest verdicts.

They have been delivered by the jury over several hearings but they were not reportable until jurors were discharged.

Letby broke down in tears as the first set of guilty verdicts were read out by the jury's foreman on 8 August after 76 hours of deliberations.

She cried with her head bowed as the second set were returned on 11 August.

Her mother sobbed loudly and was heard to say "this can't be right - you can't be serious" while the families of the babies cried and gasped.

Letby, originally from Hereford, was found not guilty of two counts of attempted murder.

The jury was unable to reach verdicts on six further attempted murder charges.

Nicholas Johnson KC, prosecuting, asked the court for 28 days to consider whether a retrial would be sought for these remaining six counts.

Cameron Brannagan scored an early penalty to put Oxford in front and Jordan Williams' own goal made it 2-0 just before the hour.

Devante Cole pulled a goal back for Barnsley with 20 minutes left but Tyler Goodrham sealed the points for the improving visitors late on.

Port Vale celebrated their first League One away win since January 1 as Funso Ojo's 87th-minute goal settled an end-to-end 3-2 win over Charlton.

Summer signing Alfie May opened his goal account for Charlton in the 10th minute. The striker rifled his penalty home after referee Sunny Singh Gill ruled that keeper Connor Ripley had impeded Daniel Kanu.

Alex Iacovitti cleared a Corey Blackett-Taylor shot off his goal line as the home team dominated the opening quarter.

But Vale produced a quickfire double in the early stages of the second half.

First James Wilson headed Ethan Chislett's excellent free-kick beyond Ashley Maynard-Brewer then moments later, Charlton's defence crumbled and Chislett went through to emphatically finish.

The Addicks levelled in the 71st minute, Daniel Kanu producing a deft header from Blackett-Taylor's cross for his second goal of the week.

Ojo ensured Vale ended a 12-game winless league run on the road with a late clincher. Maynard-Brewer bravely saved at the feet of substitute Josh Thomas but he was able to guide the loose ball back across for a simple tap-in.

Russia's unmanned Luna-25 spacecraft has crashed into the Moon after spinning out of control, officials say.

It was Russia's first Moon mission in almost 50 years.

The craft was due to be the first ever to land on the Moon's south pole, but failed after encountering problems as it moved into its pre-landing orbit.

It was set to explore a part of the Moon which scientists think could hold frozen water and precious elements.

Roscosmos, Russia's state space corporation, said on Sunday morning that it had lost contact with the Luna-25 shortly after 14:57pm (11:57 GMT) on Saturday.

Preliminary findings showed that the 800kg lander had "ceased to exist as a result of a collision with the surface of the Moon", it said in a statement.

It said a special commission would look into why the mission failed.

The loss of Luna-25 is a blow to Roscosmos. Russia's civilian space programme has been in decline for several years, as state funding is increasingly directed towards the military.

Russia was racing to the Moon's south pole against India, whose Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft is scheduled to land there in the coming days and send a rover to explore the rocks and craters, gathering data and images to send back to Earth.

Parts of the Moon's south pole remain permanently in shadow, which makes finding water a possibility.

England's wait to win a first Women's World Cup title goes on after Spain deservedly triumphed in the final in Sydney.

The Lionesses, looking to become the first England senior side since the men's team in 1966 to win the World Cup, suffered heartbreak after being outplayed by a Spanish side full of flair and creativity.

England's players fell to their knees in tears at the final whistle as Spain celebrated inside their penalty area after dealing with a final corner kick in the 14th minute of nerve-wracking stoppage time.

Spain captain Olga Carmona slotted the winner past goalkeeper Mary Earps in the first half, capitalising after England's Lucy Bronze lost possession in midfield.

England manager Sarina Wiegman, who has now lost two successive World Cup finals, introduced Lauren James and Chloe Kelly at half-time but Spain maintained control despite the Lionesses' best efforts.

Earps, who won the Golden Glove award as best goalkeeper at the tournament, made several stunning saves, none better than from the penalty spot to deny Jenni Hermoso in the second half.

The Manchester United stopper moved early to her left and caught Hermoso's effort, the penalty having being awarded for handball against midfielder Keira Walsh following a lengthy video assistant referee review.

But it was one step too far for the European champions, who lost just their second match in two years under Wiegman.

"I'm just deflated," said England defender Lucy Bronze. "Obviously we went into the World Cup wanting to win it and we were so close, but in the end we couldn't quite get it over the line.

"I am proud of what we have achieved but I think everybody that knows me, knows that I only like gold medals."

Spain are crowned champions for the first time despite going into the tournament under a cloud of controversy following a dispute between players and the Spanish football federation.

Syco Music, originally S Records, was a division of Syco Entertainment founded by British entrepreneur and record executive Simon Cowell. Founded in 2002, the label launched while Cowell was still employed by BMG, the label oversaw music releases by Robson & Jerome, Five, Westlife and Teletubbies. A year later, BMG, now named Sony BMG, bought Cowell's share in both Syco Music and Syco Television. Later in 2010, Cowell and Sony Music entered a joint venture agreement that would see Cowell and Sony each own 50% of the new Syco Entertainment company which encompassed both the previous Syco TV and Syco Music divisions. The brand had multiple well-known acts signed such as Fifth Harmony, Camila Cabello, One Direction, Little Mix and CNCO. In July 2020, Sony sold the rights to the television formats and assets back to Cowell, effectively divesting all of Syco's non-music divisions. As part of the venture, Syco Music, its current roster and back catalog remains with Sony Music as a wholly owned subsidiary. However, as of September 2020, and according to industry magazine Music Week, the label is now defunct, with staff either leaving or being redeployed elsewhere within the Sony Music group.

England's Mary Earps has been named the best goalkeeper at the 2023 Women's World Cup and claimed the Golden Glove award.

The Manchester United player saved a penalty from Spain's Jenni Hermoso in the final, which England lost 1-0.

Earps, 30, played in all of England's seven matches, conceding four goals.

Spain midfielder Aitana Bonmati was named player of the tournament with 19-year-old Spain winger Salma Paralluelo taking the young player award.

Japan's Hinata Miyazawa won the Golden Boot for scoring the most goals, with a total of five.

She scored two in a 5-0 win against Zambia, two in the 4-0 victory over eventual champions Spain and one in the 3-1 success against Norway in the last 16.

Speaking after the final, Earps said her own performance was not much of a consolation for missing out on the World Cup.

"The team result is the most important thing really and we couldn't get that," Earps told BBC Radio 5 Live.

"I just try to go out and do my job for the team, leave everything on the pitch.

"In a couple of weeks, when the emotion has settled down, we will probably be able to look back and feel proud - it is no small feat to get to a World Cup final.

"But we are very competitive people, we came here to win the game and get a gold medal, not a silver one.

"At the same time you need to try and be as present as possible. These moments don't come around very often. I will probably look back on this as up there as one of my career highlights but right now it just doesn't feel like it."

Spain captain Olga Carmona, who scored her country's winner in the Women's World Cup final, was told after the game that her father had died.

Carmona, 23, scored the only goal as Spain beat England to claim the trophy.

The Real Madrid left-back's father had been fighting a long illness and died on Friday, Reuters reported.

"The RFEF deeply regrets to announce the death of Olga Carmona's father," the Spanish Football Association (RFEF) wrote on social media.

"The footballer learned the sad news after the World Cup final.

"We send our most sincere embrace to Olga and her family in a moment of deep sorrow. We love you, Olga, you are Spanish soccer history."

Spanish media outlet Relevo said her family and friends decided not to tell her so she could focus on the final, with her mother and brothers arriving in Australia on Saturday to support her.

Her club Real Madrid also expressed "condolences and affection for Olga, her relatives and all her loved ones".

People in Ecuador have been voting in presidential and congressional elections overshadowed by violence.

Some 100,000 police and soldiers have been deployed to protect the polls.

Earlier this month, a presidential candidate was assassinated. Others have said their campaigns have been marred by shootings.

The snap election was called after President Guillermo Lasso - a conservative former banker - dissolved parliament to avoid impeachment.

Among the eight politicians vying for the presidency, the frontrunner has been Luisa Gonzales, an ally of leftist ex-President Rafael Correa.

But the assassination of candidate Fernando Villavicencio on 9 August in the capital, Quito, has made the election difficult to predict.

It has also placed the focus very much on peace and security. Bulletproof vests were in evidence during the campaign and many candidates dialled down their closing events.

On Saturday, gunfire erupted in a restaurant where conservative candidate Otto Sonnenholzner was having breakfast. The shooting happened in Guayaquil, Ecuador's largest city, which has been overrun by drug-traffickers.

Mr Sonnenholzner is not believed to have been the target. But the campaign has seen a surge in gang attacks.

Owen Farrell will miss England's first two World Cup pool games after World Rugby successfully appealed against the decision to overturn his red card.

The England captain's four-game ban means he will miss the group games against Argentina and Japan, with two warm-up matches also included.

Farrell's red card had been overturned by an independent judicial committee, which was then overruled on Tuesday.

The Appeal Committee said the tackle was "always illegal".

Farrell became the first England player to receive a red card from rugby's new 'bunker' review system when he made a high tackle on Taine Basham during England's 19-17 win over Wales on 12 August.

The Appeal Committee found that, in their original hearing, the Disciplinary Committee should have considered Farrell's attempt to wrap his opponent in the tackle.

Therefore the Appeal Committee determined that no mitigation could be made for the tackle, and that the original decision to overturn the red card was an error, which led them to ban Farrell.

The ban will include last weekend's 29-10 defeat by Ireland in Dublin, which the Appeal Committee said Farrell "voluntarily stood down" from playing in after World Rugby announced its intention to appeal beforehand.

The 31-year-old will also miss the final warm-up game against Fiji this weekend at Twickenham as well as the first two pool matches. He will be available to play again on 23 September against Chile.

Britney Spears and Sam Asghari have reportedly come to an agreement regarding the custody of their dogs in wake of their shock divorce.

DailyMail.com exclusively revealed last week that the singer, 41, had fears that her estranged spouse, 29, may attempt to seize ownership of their two dogs.

But a source told TMZ on Tuesday that the couple have mutually agreed to split up their adopted pooches.

Sam now has full custody of a Doberman named Porsha, which he gifted the Piece Of Me singer in October 2021 with the intention of training it to 'protect' her.

The dog has been handed over to Sam and he was photographed walking her in Pasadena on Monday.

Meanwhile, Britney will get to keep the Australian Shepherd named Sawyer that they adopted in March during a trip to Maui.

The winner of the 1990 Eurovision Song Contest, Toto Cutugno, has passed away at the age of 80.

The singer was responsible for Italy’s second victory when the Contest took place in Zagreb in what was then Yugoslavia.

His song, Insieme: 1992 (both written and composed by Toto), spoke of the bringing together of nations; the date in the title refers to the year in which the European Union was due to begin operating.

Of course, with a win comes the responsibility of hosting the Contest the following year, and so Italian broadcaster Rai approached Toto to present the 1991 show alongside Gigliola Cinquetti (who had also won for Italy back in 1964 with her song Non ho l'età ).

The Contest took place in Rome and is fondly remembered by fans for its unexpected nature as Frank Naef (then the European Broadcasting Union’s independent scrutineer) was required to intervene several times as Toto and Gigliola tackled the voting sequence.

As well as his legacy as one of the Contest’s most memorable winners, Toto also leaves behind a body of work that spans 5 decades thanks to his multiple successes in both Italy’s Sanremo Music Festival and the Italian charts.
