The hospital where Catherine, Princess of Wales underwent abdominal surgery has said "any breach" of patient information would be investigated.

It follows reports that staff tried to access her private medical information.

The London Clinic - frequently used by royals - said it had "no place" for those intentionally breaching the trust of patients or colleagues.

The Information Commissioners' Office (ICO) said it had received a "breach report" and was making inquiries.

Al Russell, chief executive of the London Clinic said in a statement that all his employees were "acutely aware" of their "individual, professional, ethical and legal duties with regards to patient confidentiality".

"We take enormous pride in the outstanding care and discretion we aim to deliver for all our patients that put their trust in us every day," he continued.

"We have systems in place to monitor management of patient information and, in the case of any breach, all appropriate investigatory, regulatory and disciplinary steps will be taken."

On Tuesday, the Daily Mirror reported that "at least one member of staff was said to have been caught trying to access" Catherine's medical notes.

The paper said an internal investigation had been launched at the private hospital, which has treated both the princess and King Charles III in recent months.

Mr Russell made no direct reference to the claims about the Princess of Wales.

Newcastle United defender Sven Botman is expected to be out for "six to nine months" after a scan revealed he needs surgery on a knee injury.

The Netherlands international injured his anterior cruciate ligament in Saturday's FA Cup defeat at Manchester City and had to be substituted late on.

The 24-year-old centre-back will have surgery next week.

"Everyone at Newcastle United wishes Sven a full and speedy recovery," said the Premier League club.

Botman initially sustained a knee injury in September and missed 17 games - including the final five of the Magpies' Champions League group games - before returning in December.

Newcastle said it was decided not to send Botman for surgery at that stage and he regained full fitness through a rehabilitation programme.

Botman has started the majority of Newcastle's matches since his return, but had to be brought off in the 83rd minute of the 2-0 loss to Manchester City in their quarter-final tie at the weekend.

Newcastle added: "Following further assessment, a scan has confirmed that he sustained an injury to his ACL during Saturday's match and he is expected to return to action within six-to-nine months."

Vaughan Gething has been confirmed as Wales' new first minister after a vote in the Welsh Parliament.

He will succeed Mark Drakeford, who bowed out with an emotional speech on Tuesday, after five years at the helm.

Mr Gething, the first black leader of a national government in Europe, said he wanted to lead a Wales "full of hope, ambition and unity".

He was backed by 27 Senedd members, Tory Andrew RT Davies had 13 votes and Plaid Cymru's Rhun ap Iorwerth 11.

Mr Gething's name now goes to the King for approval.

After the monarch responds, Mr Gething can be sworn in and turn his mind to appointing a cabinet.

The new leader was congratulated by the prime minister in the Commons on Wednesday, and spoke to Rishi Sunak later on Wednesday afternoon.

Mr Gething, who represents the Cardiff South and Penarth seat in Cardiff Bay, narrowly won the Welsh Labour leadership election but there have been questions about financial donations to his campaign.

In his first words after being nominated as first minister in the Senedd chamber, Mr Gething, thanked Mr Drakeford "for everything you have done for Wales".

Becoming first minister as a black person was "a matter of pride," he said, "I believe for a modern Wales, but also a daunting responsibility for me that I do not take lightly".

"Today, we can also expect the depressingly familiar pattern to emerge: abuse on social media, racist tropes disguised with polite language.

"People questioning my motives and, yes, they will still question or deny my nationality, whilst others question why I'm 'playing the race card'.

"To those people, I say once more - it is very easy not to care about identity when your own has never once been questioned or held you back."

Mr Gething, 50, said he looked forward to "standing up for Wales and for devolution, in the weeks and months to come".

"But I relish the opportunity to cooperate for Wales with a new UK government that invests in partnership and in Wales' future," he said, anticipating a Labour victory in the UK general election due in the next 10 months."

Seamus Coleman is determined to enjoy the remainder of a Republic of Ireland career he thought might be finished after a serious knee injury.

Coleman, 35, is back in the squad for Saturday's friendly against Belgium and Tuesday's game with Switzerland.

The full-back was hurt against Leicester last May and returned to Everton duty in December.

"I kind of thought that might have been it," said Coleman. "It looked to be a bad injury."

Coleman, who has 68 caps for his country after his debut in 2011, added: "Thankfully I got away without it being an ACL which was important at my age."

His last international appearance had him battling with France's Kylian Mbappe 12 months ago as the Irish produced one of the better performances of Stephen Kenny's reign before losing 1-0 in a Euro 2024 qualifier in Dublin.

Following Kenny's departure as coach, Coleman's former Republic defensive colleague John O'Shea is in interim charge for the two games over the next week.

"It's always tough watching on and to see the team not doing so well is very tough," he added of the Republic's continuing struggles which have seen them drop to 62nd spot in the world rankings.

"I've been there when I've been fit and a part of teams that aren't doing well, so I know how it feels, it's tough.

"It always hurts us when we play for our national team and it doesn't go to plan, but, personally speaking, I was kind of tunnel vision towards getting fit.

"I was just completely focused on getting back fit. Obviously I watch out for the lads and care for the lads when I'm not here, but I had full focus on trying to get back to play at this level."

Wales will be one win away from Euro 2024 if they beat Finland in their home play-off semi-final on Thursday.

Victory will set up a one-leg play-off final at Cardiff City Stadium against Poland or Estonia on Tuesday.

Having failed to qualify for a major tournament between 1958 and 2016, Wales are aiming to reach their fourth out of five - and a third successive Euros.

"There's everything to play for but we're fully prepared for it," said Wales manager Robert Page.

"It's quite a relaxed environment and that's not because we're blase about it or taking things for granted.

"We're in good form at this moment in time, most of the squad are playing football for their clubs, training has been excellent.

"We have gone through similar experiences with the pressure of the play-off situations against Austria and Ukraine [to qualify for the 2022 World Cup], and the difficulty surrounding that.

"We are all quite relaxed but not underestimating the challenge."

Ukraine will play Iceland in Wroclaw, Georgia will host Greece, and Poland will visit Wales in Tuesday's three Euro 2024 play-off finals.

Albert Gudmundsson scored a hat-trick as Iceland came back to beat Israel 4-1 in the Hungarian capital Budapest.

Ukraine scored two late goals to stun Bosnia 2-1 in Zenica.

Georgia, who have never qualified for a tournament, beat Luxembourg 2-0, while Greece enjoyed a comfortable 5-0 win over Kazakhstan in Athens.

Wales beat Finland 4-1 in Cardiff, with Poland defeating Estonia 5-1.

The Euro 2024 play-offs involve the group winners of the top three divisions in the last Uefa Nations League, or else the highest ranked teams who did not qualify for the tournament directly.

Israel's home game against Iceland had to be played in Budapest because of the war in Gaza.

Sainz was quickest in the first two parts of qualifying but the world champion bounced back in the top 10 shootout to take pole by 0.27 seconds.

Lando Norris will start third ahead of Ferrari's Charles Leclerc after a grid penalty for Red Bull's Sergio Perez.

Mercedes' George Russell was seventh while Lewis Hamilton only 11th.

Harry Wilson says Wales will need a collective effort to fill the void left by Gareth Bale.

Wales face Poland in a Euro 2024 play-off final on Tuesday, the culmination of their first qualifying campaign since Bale, their all-time leading goalscorer and former captain, retired.

Manager Robert Page has referenced Wilson as a player who has taken on more responsibility in Bale's absence.

"I don't think anyone was going to replace Gaz [Bale]," said Wilson.

"We knew when he left as a team we had to step up because he was leaving such a hole in that team.

"He was our captain, our leader, our best player. To lose his goals and his influence on the team, there was going to be a big gap there.

"It's not just me, a lot of players are playing really well at the moment. We're all coming together."

New road schemes that reflect the climate emergency and put Wales at the forefront of design could be considered, the new transport secretary said.

The Welsh government scrapped all new major projects in 2023 on environmental grounds.

But new Transport Secretary Ken Skates said schemes including a third Menai crossing could be considered.

Mr Skates has taken on transport in new leader Vaughan Gething's cabinet.

However, when asked about the possibility of reviving the M4 relief road at Newport on BBC Radio Wales' Sunday Supplement, he said "the opportunity has come and gone" for that.

While opening the door for new roads, he said: "We have to ensure that they reflect the reality of the climate emergency that we face.

"I want Wales to be at the forefront of design and implementation of new schemes."

The owner of theme parks including Alton Towers and Legoland is to make it more costly to visit on a sunny bank holiday than a rainy day midweek.

Merlin Entertainments, which also runs the London Eye and Madame Tussauds, is introducing "dynamic pricing" so prices can respond faster to weather and demand.

Merlin said it would help offset a decline in visitors since the pandemic.

Around 20 of its global venues will see the changes this year.

Merlin Entertainments already uses off-peak and peak time pricing which, like many organisations, allows seasonal fluctuations to dictate demand and therefore price.

But the introduction of machine learning will make flexible ticket pricing faster and more detailed.
