He's been one of the star performers for me

Have you seen this guys stats? Fack me I saw some recently about tackle success and passing success bloody awesome they were if anyone could find them I'd love to see them again.

He's no benny at left back but in the centre he's one of our best, saying that he's not half bad on the left either but it's not his natural position for me he's a bit slow to stop crosses out there.

Let's not get too carried away, Vermaelen is a class act. As is Kompany too.

I think he is what you call a complete footballing defender, someone like King, Agger, Vermaelen and maybe Luiz (he is a class act, he needs to improve on his concentration).

There is one thing that I do not like about him though. Sometimes when he picks up the ball on the left wing, I expect it to be Bale and it is such a disappointment because he cannot run at people like Bale can. Maybe I'm being harsh...

Seriously though, he has been wonderful and although we were angry with levy, I have to commend him on the negotiation there.

His link up play at LB is spot on, so useful to have someone with such a good footballing instinct.

Really wanted to come to us too. Love the guy. Great defender and club legend ib the making. Reckon he will get 5+ goals for us next year.

For a lefty, he's pretty comfortable on his right foot, too. That's part of the reason he looks so good going forward - you can't just force him onto his weaker side and watch him turn away to get back on his left foot. Tom Carrol has that problem at the moment, BTW.

Excellent player who shows captain like qualities. He is also relatively young which is a huge plus point.

I'm not having a dig buddy but I can't agree with the vermaelen praise.

For me he is completely overrated shows a lack of composure and struggles when making decisions. I don't doubt he is a good player but he is not deserved of the praise he gets sometimes.

At CB, i agree. But i dont rate him at LB. He never stops the winger getting his crosses in, and doesnt have the pace to get back into position quick enough.

I hold my hands up to being wrong about him at CB though, as i originally said he hadnt impressed me during the friendlies he played in - but he is a top Prem class CB. But i'm still sticking with my opinion on him at LB.

Cant wait to have BAE back.

For the record, I can't recall any Arsenal fans saying they wouldn't want him. If anything, they were quite complimentary of him. Also I can only agree with all that said he is a CB and not a LB, although he has done a pretty good job there.

i remeber a few posting that he wld do as fourth choice....league cup player....

Also, Vermaelen may be having a poor run of form at the moment, but so are the majority of his team mates, so it is quite unfair to forget that he is still a very good CB.

junc, to be fair I think this may be a case of the WUM views being quoted rather than the views of actual football fans. Selective memory and all that.....
