Vert is quality & so comfortable on the ball. I reckon he could do a job in midfield if required. He is top class & will become even better once we get our full team out.

"Don and me said how good he was before he even signed but everyone said we didnt know what we were talking about"

I think they are talking about you in general, Weare.
Don't drag Verty into this.

Seriously though Vertonghen is easily our best signing this summer. Absolute class player and I'm very glad we signed him. People who criticise him for his performances at left back can off!

===================

I personally dont think there is anything wrong with saying that a CB playing at LB isn't as effective at LB as he is at CB.

In fact, i think all the comments are fair. And most of them were backed up yesterday when we had Dempsey, and even Defoe, doing the LB duties of chasing back.

I'm not criticising Vert as a signing, just that it makes us weaker when he plays at LB.

vertonghen was poor at left back yet again yesterday

Chronic...............................Only because he did not have the support from midfield & it was totally non existent when Huddlestone came on!

greaves,

I disagree. As i say, even Defoe had to chase down their right winger at one point.

When Vert loses it, he acts like a striker, hands on hips & no motivation to get back. And it leaves a very obvious hole.

i will talk that on board.. but that doesnt change the fact that he should still be competent at one on one defending, like closing the man down and stopping crosses.

if the problem was overlapping runs, or being dragged out of position, then yes you are right.

but, hes supposed to be top class... or at least i was told this.. so maybe i just have my expectations for him set to high.

the way he was described to me i literally thought we had the next ledley king here in a rolls royce defender who could play left back or centre back..

Don't really watch spurs to be fair....well twice a year.

Fellaini's

If you watch MotD or any football highlights show at all, when you see us concede late, Huds would have just come on the pitch - most probably in exchange for a forward or player useful for attacking.
