OneMickey.........................................I met HD in 1973, about a year after he had written the book. He is a thoroughly nice guy & had sort of adopted Spurs even though he supported one of the Scottish sides.
His enduring memory was of sitting down to talk to Bill Nicholson, who he thought was one of the most passionate football man he had ever met.
Nice one Greavsie ! From what I remember of the book, Bill Nick was a hard taskmaster, but as you say, totally passionate about THFC. A great read.
Billy Nick was nobody's fool & would not have tolerated some of today's players.
Mind you, neither can I for that matter!!
"Billy Nick was nobody's fool & would not have tolerated some of today's players."
He had a vision of perfection for his teams, and would not tolerate those players who hindered that aim.
Afternoon RDBD............................................
Yes, he was a perfectionist who expected high standards & professionalism from all his staff & players!
Bill Nick and today's pampered stars would be an interesting mix........
Different era.
However, no Spurs team of his would be allowed to do the 80th min stuff more than once a season.
The thing is under Bill Nicholson we knew how to finish teams off & boy could we pass the ball around!!! The opposition were run ragged at times & all with a heavy ball, nailed in studs & a ploughed field to play on!
A brill book about the era when I first went to games. Legendary Manager and players.
Its going on my Christmas list, I had heard of the book but never knew much about it - cheers for the info OMH
