Lucas or Agger

I would like to think that Pepe/Suarez would be here in 4/5 years time, but its too uncertain to say.

Once he has proved his long term fitness then Lucas for me.

Agger has to be managed to much with his injury issues, I don't think adding the captaincy would benefit him.

Agger, isn't he vice captain for Denmark? Top player and loyal to the cause.

100% Lucas

The resolve of that lad is unparallelled. An inspiration and one of the most likeable players.

Lucas is deffo going to get it.... I have no doubts at all...

The problem with Lucas is that he is a great role model, and is a truly talented player, however he isn't the most vocal characters and isn't in my opinion a captain type player not even in the mold of Gerrard who is the quiet captain.

Some of the great captains have been quiet players.

Plus, i find its often Lucas that approaches referees

Listen to Brendan describe Lucas and it gives it away...

Without question, it has to be Lucas. The way he has approached his whole Liverpool career is exactly what we want from a Captain.

To go from being ridiculed by the majority of the fans (me included, sadly) at the begining of his Liverpool career to how he is now, is nothing short of amazing and deserves to be recognised.

He seems to have a lot of respect from all his fellow pro's, and his never say die attitude is amazing.

I have no doubt that as soon as he is fully fit and playing for Brazil again, he will also be given the Captains armband there too. All of the managers that have coached him at national and club level seem to love him for his ability and professionalism.

Lucas is one of our few players who's quite good at manipulating the refs, generally we're crap at it

Yeh thats how he describes him

People can talk about how Lucas perhaps isn't the most vocal of players, but he is definitely captain material in my eyes.

Brendan summed it up perfectly an interview over the summer. He said "Some captains may lead by getting their voices heard, whilst others lead by example."

(whilst referring to SG of course) and yes he clearly gives it away, saying how he wants to build the team around Lucas..

I'd give it to Suarez.

The guy is a born competitor.

Agree with Agger, but feel Brenden would want to give it too someone younger (Gerrard was 23 when he got it). Don't get the Lucas for captain hype, he isn't a natural leader at all.

Agger then Reina would be my choice.

probably help to keep hold of both of them as well.

knowing Brendan it will be Allen (he have any experience any one know?)

I'd make Agger captain tomorrow if I could - but the distant-future captain is Martin Kelly.

I honestly think by the time SG retires (prob 3 or four years) we'll be looking at Martin Kelly as captain.

Reina, Agger and Lucas are all possibles as intermediary captains but I don't think any of them will get it on a permanent basis.

I don't think we really need help keeping Agger - after our awful finish last season, the champions were interested in him and rather than agitate for a move, he got YNWA tattooed on his knuckles and signed a new contract.

I also don't think anybody whose medium- to long-term future is in question should be considered. It doesn't make them stay, it causes instability and eventually just makes the club look weaker if they do leave. Arsenal's last four captains have all left, and some of them seemed to have been made captain in an attempt to keep them.
