Did he really shout, "AT THE MOMENT" like that? Not very subtle of him.

Not as subtle as Wenger's mind games

'I did not see it'

Well i think it is obvious there is a game of brinkmanship over Sneijder with Inter Milan. They are looking to sell before they buy and want to maximise their money.

United are shrewd operators in transfer dealings, and are not going to pay over the odds like Liverpool and City for players. It is only a matter of time before something gives.....

hmm, I find it to easier to staple jell to the ceiling than read Fergie, so its all gueswork.

At the moment i honestly believe that our transfer dealings are done and our "Midfield problem" will be left in the hands of Carrick and Anderson (who will have to prove themselves once and for all) before the purchase of Rodwell (or a similar type) next year.

Did any of you notice that he gave a meaningful wink while delivering those words 'at the moment', after which he nudged David Gill with his elbow and winked again?

...I agree that the phrase introduces a degree of qualification to the statement and that could give us reason to hope something might happen in the end. And we should also bear in mind that Fergie is the master of strategic misinformation. He will lie about our intentions if he thinks it is in our interests to keep quiet about them.

Having said that, I don't think you can take away anything so categorical as "quite clearly he is saying that towards the end of the window when teams are looking for that money and to make a bit of cash, that will be when our players are available." It's also quite possible that he doesn't expect to spend any more money but is keeping an open mind about it. Or that he definitely doesn't have any more to spend but is on the defensive about saying so because he knows everyone is crying out for a big midfield acquisition. His words don't 'clearly' mean anything.

Sorry I don't usually get involved with things like this but Jones, Veron, Hargreaves, Carrick, Bebe, Obertan, Young, Anderson, Berbatov were hardly shrewd transfers.

Hernandez, Ronaldo, Vidic, van der Sar etc. were, but you can hardly claim that you never overpay for players, that's a bit del-, er, foolhardy?

Didi Hamann? He did doe didn't he doe? 58 and counting...

I wouldn't agree with all of those on your list (at today's rates and given the success he has helped deliver, Carrick was a decent buy; the youngsters still at the club may deserve a chance to prove their worth) but you're quite right to cut through the 'we don't make the mistakes other clubs make' cant when you see it.

And I'll definitely give you Bebe and Berbatov.

Hamman

Carrick was a snip for his return. So was Anderson
Jones and Young haven't actually played yet. Hargo was a very shrewd buy and if it wasn't for injury would have been one of the best PL players ever.

I suspect you know this really but it seems you have decided to use your ignorance as the basis of a wum. Fail.

Anderson has been part of a MF that has won everything.

There is no other way of describing his return.

£17m is peanuts to pay to win the CL and the PLx3 and FIFA World Club Champs.

To be fair, I wasn't questioning the ability of those players, Bebe and Obertan aside, but simply pointing out that given the money spent on them they could hardly be called shrewd. Realistically you could add Rooney and Ferdinand to the list. Great players but bought at high prices. It's easy afterwards to say what a success tey turned out to be but at the time they were both big-money gambles not shrewd signings.

please tell me what 'return' Anderson has given you.

....................

3 x PL
2x CC
1x CL

Good to see that you are still willing to display your massive football ignorance on a daily basis.

In fact, Andersons return is far superior than that of the Liverpool captain in the same period.

But what imperative role has Anderson played in getting you these trophies, as an individual?

Not guaranteed. His first league title was when he stood in for Scholes during his long absence.

He was one of those who stood up to be counted in our CL win over Chelsea, right at the nerve racking end.

Something the much more experienced Chelsea captain could not do.

Same with our CC win over the spuds.

Move on redrob, you have made yourself look ignorant again.

I'm not blinkered enough to know that United have been a very, very good team over that period of time so of course I rate them.
+++++++++

because we have winning players in out squad like Anderson, who Fergie rotates with the rest of his MF players, so we are still competing on all fronts come May. He is worth every penny to United, because of the return we get from utilising him, whilst you have losers like Lucas.

When is the penny going to drop with you scousers. This is how it works.

Anderson played a huge part in the 07/08 title when Scholes was out with his eye injury. to be fair he has never really replicated that form on a regular basis for us since. But had he not played so well that season then I doubt we would have won the title. That alone has covered his transfer fee.
