Yeah you had the balance that's how you lasted so long. Every so often you'd engage in debate, however towards the end there was just too much fishing going on!

Henderson and Downing both got medals. Spurs got none.

Fatjan....you'd swap the tinpot cup for top 4 for in the blink of an eye.
Trophies are great. Everyone wants one but for teams like LFC and THFC, right now in our development and transition, CL now would probably open up longer term success & trophies much more than the CC ever could.

Thats because they are the owners and so financially it is important. They aren't Liverpool supporters
When we were good 4th was the minimum requirement which is why we've had managers sacked recently. It wasn't seen as an achievement though. An achevement was then getting to Champions League finals and winning it.
Champions League qualification is financially far more important than winning the league cup.Top players will look to join a Champions League side ahead of a side winning the league cup every time.Every year Liverpool fail to make the top 4 the weaker they become.

For me football is about the great days, the finals, the great European nights, challenging for trophies. As a supporter this is what you want for your club. Some teams have the ability to do it all the time at the highest levels, other supporters' highlight might be the FA Vase or the 4th round of the FA Cup.
Top 4 alone is a not an acheivement. Its what you then do with it. When we used to do it, we'd get to finals, semi finals etc. That was the acvhievement.
I agree that Champiosn League gives you the money and therefore the opportunity to better yourselves, but just don't accept Top 4 as success. Its not real success. Top 4 is a Sky marketing thing. It gets you qualification into another competitions.

I'd say both Spurs and LFC need top 4 if they are to make serious strides to getting where they want to be.
Spurs have almost plateaued & we need the extra money and attraction of CL to break through.
LFC have huge potential which would be unleashed if they made the top 4. You'd have the finances and the status to maximise your financial potential and would soon be up amongst the very top teams....but FatJan wants the tinpot cup on your CV....fair play to him!

Being in the top 4 is an achievement of the Premier League and not a 'prize' in and off itself.
The reward for this achievement (and getting top 4 in the PL is a big one trust me) is then CL qualification, the prize will be winning the CL. You cant get to one without the other.
One of the reasons that our fans can hold their head up high is that we did all we needed to do to reach a CL qualification place but were robbed by a c.havy fluke

What I actually said is that I'd want CL qualifications an and I'd liek to win trophies. I don't see why one has to happen and the other not. I don't see CL qualification alone as success. Spurs and and Everton fans seem to think it is. Top 4 is Sky marketing at its very best and people like you fall for it every season and actually begin to believe that Top 4 is success.
I'd rather be old school about and see my team in cup finals, trying to win things as oppose to thinking that 4th equals a successfull season. I want to be in the position where 4th is the minimum requirement.
