what particular aspect of the performance concerned you? you mentioned that defoe and bentley were poor.. but i wouldnt expect to see either of them playing too much next season

Is 9 million Crouch injured?

The other CB was Veljkovic - a trialist?

I've read elsewhere that Defoe was booed when he came off. Any truth in that?

Thanks for that Aspur

I kind of laughed reading how Defoe got on, i said before hand he would have yet another shocker

Nice report

I hear that Veljkovic is only 18?

I don't remember Defoe being booed, but that may just be my poor memory

What concerned me was the lack of width, barring Townsend and the poor performance from Defoe, who some consider our best striker, against a League 1 defence. He should be scoring for fun against them.

He scored at the weekend. Deserves a night off

I think its safe to say that Defoe might not be with us for much longer, im more interested in Pav getting back on form, he looked a bit sluggish in SA

If Pav can get a run of games next season and score us 10-15 PL goals, that would be a good season for him and us

Top post. Enjoyed the ratings. Shame about niko cos I agree he could do a job in midfield but him and vdv would be slow. And he ain't as good as luka.

Defoe: Very disappointing. Went to ground easily against mediocre opponent, and spent more time complaining than contributing to build up play. Got barged off the ball and didn't make any chances for himself. New striker please asap. 4/10

I am so disappointed by this. I'm one of those that rate him

I thought Pav was very good tonight tbh, took his chances very well and worked quite hard to recieve the ball in deeper positions, which I never thought I'd see from him

I had hoped Defoe would regain form with a longer run in the side but now I'm convinced he should go. Are Arsenal still interested?

If the unthinkable happens and we dont bring in a striker... then who does everyone think should be top man up front? has to be pav surely.. but then again i am concerned at how often he goes missing... when your the only man up top.. you need to be on your game for the whole game

I agree messiah, I really rated Defoe up until a year ago, and one of many who prayed he would come good. The wolves game gave me false hope it would seem

Defoe has been MIA for way over a year now, and when he isn't scoring he adds nothing to our team

I dont agree with people saying he cant have a bad season again..why not? He is a year older, a year slower and up against better defenders

Pav has to be our main man and who ever else we bring in to play alongside him

Chronic I think you go with your in form striker, so obviously Crouch mate

I dont think we can judge either Pav or Defoe on this game really mate. I trust Harry to pick his starter based on form in training. I'm so hoping Defoe comes good though

posted on 26/7/11

I dont see any spark in Defoe what so ever, i trust Pav more to score a goal out of nothing and to do that something special which we NEED in those tight games

I doubt Pav has faith in either Defoe or Crouch to play alongside him, if we did bring in a good striker i reckon it will be the New Coming of Pav
