Don't think there's such a thing as a cakewalk in that heat Logie.
I remember Andy toiling against Hasse in a slam before (can't remember which one) so nothing can be taken for granted in his opener
It was the US Open when Haase pushed Murray to five sets. The Dutchman's strength is his powerful groundstrokes but remember that is widely accepted that the US Open surface is quicker than that at Melbourne so that will blunt his weapons a little I reckon.
Maybe not a cakewalk ,Pol, but that is as easy a draw as Ferrer will ever get in a slam! Whereas Federer has the toughest draw that i can remember in a long, long time.
Haase is going to be a really tough match, Andy will be more nervous than ever. Going out in R1 after winning his first major will be at the back of his mind. But like CC has said, the surface should allow Murray to get at him and not let him dictate with heavy ground srtokes
I see Baker has has made the main draw which is great news, after all the problems he's had i hope he can kick on from here and get inside the 150. Should be a good match against Rosol.
Andy (at least till Del P but even then he often beats him with ease) and Djokovic have very easy draws.
Very tough draw for Fedex.
Djokovic is winning this. I can see it
Banega he has won it 3 times in the past so it's hardly a stab in the dark.
My heart as always says Andy will win it
No way is Murray winning 2 consecutive grand slams! it aint gonna happen. sorry Murray fans but he won his first and last slam
I can't see past the Djoko for this slam - unless FedEx rewinds the years or the dour Scot ups his game.
Banega
Murray will win another Slam. Easily so.
It always used to be "Murray will never win a slam"
Now its "Murray will never win two slams"
Is this how its always gonna be?
a fortnights time Logie, he'll never win 3 slams. these folk make me laugh
The progression from "he'll never win a Slam" to " he's a one Slam wonder" was always going to happen amongst Andy's minority of haters.
I'm certain he'll win one more. He has potential to win many more. If Milos Raonic is the best young player the Tour has to offer then both he and Djokovic have little to worry about.
Think Novak will win this one, though.
Milos Raonic? Oh Please.
Grigor Dimitrov and Bernard Tomic are considerably better than Raonic. Both have exceptional promise but this is Joker'S tournament to lose.
Well they've yet to prove it. I haven't seen a lot of Dimitrov but it's clear he has more skill than that Canadian meathead, as does Tomic. By all accounts, Tomic is a bit if an idiot, though.
Either way, none of them are hitting the heights Murray and Djokovic were in their earlier years and unless they improve physically - Goffin also - then they will struggle for some time yet.
Tomic indeed has a problem - personality and his mental issues (not mental illness btw).
I think tennis - this era anyhow- is not a pup's game. A tyro breaking into top ten now is almost impossible.
As brilliant as Rafa was&is, if he was just breaking out now...he will not have a slam at 19.
Fantastic performance from Andy and augurs well to win his 2nd slam
Well done Andy. Start as you mean to go on
Very professional performance.
The dour Scot was brilliant as was the smug Swiss and the coltish Serb.
Then again, it is hardly breaking news.
why do people come on simply to criticise everyone. if it's not your cup of tea then comment elsewhere
I think Andy has his work cut out winning this one. Can't remember last time a player followed up their maiden Slam win with consecutive Slam victory.
However, I think hard is his best surface and he now knows he can do it.
Come on Andy!
no-one has ever done it Jonty. Andy will hopefully be the first
Polb, Andy broke a stat in being only current Slam winner playing to have won first slam when older than 21, hopefully he can break another stat
I've no fears for him any longer Jonty. Lendl has really brought out what we always knew was in there. Murray was too stubborn to listen to his previous coaches but Ivan Lendl commands respect and it's paying off big style.
I may be wrong but i think a repeat of the US final looks highly likely with hopefully the same result.
