MARK, did you used to be Earl Brutus?

Every man and his dog hates the media and the way they fabricate, twist quotes and stories. But as soon as Fergie stands up to them and plays them at their own game, everybody is on the media's side, unbelievable

He used to be a woman.

Lads, you need to calm down about Fergie. He's a legend, won everything going multiple times and he's a real football man.

Imagine me in the sixties and seventies saying that Shankly runs off at the gob and needs to wind his neck in... You'd laugh and (rightly) say the man's a legend, a real football man and he'll do anything to gain an advantage for his club.

Just like Fergie, in fact.

Let's keep it civil, eh.

Knotty, yeah if you're going for it I'll take that bet, mate. Is 2 soft yellow cards okay rather than a straight red?

Right then. Lets get it on.

TPNM, you wouldn't believe the amount of times i've had that exact conversation with liverpool fans at work, but they tell me i was just shankly's way, he was a card and it was all banter, unlike fergie, the devil incarnate.

MARK, Shanks to me was just about the greatest football manager we've ever had, and I'm a Mancunian red, born and bred... I've nothing but respect for the man. Him and Fergie are very very similar for me.

Im too young to truly remember Shanks, I knew a few lads who played footy with him and said he was just a genius, they said he had the ability to make a nine yr old to feel 6 ft tall.
For me though it's Bob Paisley. No media soundbites, no bravado, no nothing. Just an old bloke who saw action in world war two wearing a flat cap and slippers masterminding European domination from the boot room at Anfield.

Yeah, Knotty, no argument there, Paisley was another giant, and again someone I've nothing but respect for.

You lads were privileged to have two of the best managers ever in those two.

Too young to remember either by a far sight, but Paisley always struck me as the better manager and a fascinating character.

paisley built on the foundations shankly laid, and a great job he did too.

People sometimes don't credit fergie for having to lay the foundations on which his success has been built.

I was lucky to be a kid during Paisley's years. I always thought of him as my third Grandad in a way. I used to think those days would last forever but they dont. I suppose thats just the joy of childhood.
I hope the younger Man Utd supporters get the same joy out of Fergie being the boss that I got from Bob. I hope they hold onto that feeling and take it with them into adulthood.

Remember who built your club though.... He took you from the second division to the champions of Europe through sheer force of personality, charisma and football coaching skill. I have a little drink on the anniversary of his death every year to remember him, and I'm a proper United fan.

Thats a brilliant gesture TPNM. A proper football man - and a decent taste in music to boot.

The Chelsea fans are also quite big on Shankly I hear....

Mancunians and Scousers have more in common than we have differences, and no ones going to tell me who I have to hate. Hope it's a good game on Sunday (and United win , obviously)... All the best lads

Any United fan who's known me on these forums long enough will hopefully know the regard in which I hold Ferguson for his ability; it's slightly humbling to have such a nice, genuine conversation happen on a thread where I've attacked Ferguson over something that feels pretty trivial in context.

Great sentiments, TPNM.

TPNM, United Red Macca and Earl Brutus are some of the Utd supporters on here you can have decent natters about footy with. Plus TPNM has a decent taste in tunes.

What's on your wireless at the moment, Knotty? I've run out of inspiration lately..

There are a fair few United fans I like from the United board!

UnitedRedMacca
AlwaysUnited
Jay MUFC
Darren The King Fletcher
BusbyBabes
It's a Mexican Rave
Red Rob

Also have a soft spot for 7 The Arab after the past few days.

To name but a few. It's a pity most of the times Liverpool and United fans cross paths on here it's on articles like this
