Tim-Tom, Huntelaar signed a new contract I believe, he's not going anywhere.
With Allen it's about expectation I think, he came into the side and was comfortably our best player for a month. As others have said, he wasn't just good but outstanding. I think fans (myself included to an extent) had their expectations raised to an unrealistic level.
Reminds me a bit of Enrique, started off excellently and his form dropped off fairly dramatically. He was dropped and was made to force his way back into the side. I think the same should happen with Allen. I know Rogers believes and trusts in him but I also think that, on form, Henderson deserved to start yesterday. Not saying it would have made a huge difference but for me it would send out the right signals with regards to form and selection.
Huntelaar has signed a contract extension at Schalke. A club who won their last championship in 58. Makes us look like twas only yesterday we held the cup.
Schalke, a team who's biggest talents have stated they want to leave, making it very hard to compete next season.
So, why wouldn't he want to come to LFC?
Sterling, I know. Thing is Schalke had been trying to extend his contract for over 9 months. Huntelaar delayed negotiations, and has stated in several interviews in Dutch media one of his dreams was still playing in the PL.
You do the maths. LFC has had 9 months to contact the current top scorer of the Dutch national team, even could have done so in November/December. If Huntelaar was so eager to stay at Schalke, he would have signed that contract months and months ago.
This isn't necessarily about Liverpool, this is any team!
The reason £6m was being quoted is because his contract was coming to an end. If he wanted to leave Schalke for Liverpool or anyone else then why sign a new contract? By doing so he has:
a) Removed the need for Schalke to sell or lose for free, therefore increasing his value and reducing the teams willing/able to sign him.
b) Passed up the opportunity of wages at a new club beyond what he can expect under normal circumstances. We've seen time and time again how players that come for free/greatly reduced value can demand higher salaries. Joe Cole being the obvious example.
Frankly it makes no sense whatsoever. If he really is wanting to leave then he should fire his management for gross incompetance!
Ah, ok - so you're asking why we didn't go for him 6-9 months ago. That's less easy to answer but I'd guess that clubs weren't convinced he'd make the transition to the EPL.
Didn't succeed in Madrid or Milan, maybe clubs felt it was too much of a risk. You may not agree but as you rightly pointed out, there are many teams better than Schalke and nobody decided to take the punt.
Shalke are in the last 16 of the CL with an easy draw
Sterling
Huntelaar made a statement that he wanted to concentrate on football again instead of new contracts etc, and most importantly the world cup in Brasil. That's why he signed a new contract at Schalke. He'd waited approx 9 months, no offers from other teams were made, he made his decision to play ball again and just focus on Brasil.
If it was about the money for him, he would have waited, and could have signed as a free agent for lots of money at least in Russia or some place like that, if no decent country came.
Sounds like the kind of guy I would love to play for my team tbh.
Sterling, the monent he was bought by Real, the coach that wanted him was sacked (Schuster or something).
His successor didn't like the Dutch guys at Madrid, and they were ALL sold (not just Huntelaar, but also Sneijder, VdV and Robben) to finance the coming of CR.
Wouldn't call the rest of them faillures, do you? Looking at his goal per game ratio in Spain, that was still good (especially as he was a substitute in most games played).
At Milan he was used as a right winger instead of a striker. Which he clearly is not. Yes, he failed in Italy.
But you know who else did? Dennis Bergkamp
Wouldn't call the rest of them faillures, do you?

At Madrid, yes I would. Difference is that they all moved to a top club (well, VdV went to Spurs....) and played very well. Huntelaar went to Milan and didn't. He may have been played out of position but it still wasn't a successful time.
Any player can struggle at a club, I know that and there are plenty of top class players to use as examples. I'm not having a go at Huntelaar either, all I'm saying is that he had 2 opportunities at great clubs and didn't take them. Maybe he was unlucky but there has to be some reason Liverpool and many others didn't want to try and take advantage of his contractual position at Schalke. The record in Spain/Italy is the most plausable explanation in my view.
I blame Rodgers who likes to talk a good game.
His comments led to Allen being hyped up as the 'Spanish Xavi' and of course, he was on a hiding to nothing from that.
Although, i think Allen is overrated i do think he is a young lad with some promise and levels of incosistency are expected with a player of his age.
Another overrated player - one who shows some promise, so if that's him being underrated, realistically he's just crap with no promise.

I think you are overrated.
However, if you perused my comments in its entirety, you'd see i wasn't mindless criticising a young player.
I tempered my critiques with praise but i proferred my reason why he is off-form.
Like Danny Welbeck - who is often criticised on my board- i always talk about 'patience. It is too easy to criticise young players.
Well it has become very easy on this site for every single player to be either overrated or underrated. Then we have deluded etc etc as other annoying overused words.
'Allen showed earlier on in the season that he's capable of being hugely dominant.'
He hardly lost the ball, but dominating games... Turn it in!!

To be honest I don't rate Allen at all. I just can't see what he brings to the table other than his desire to get on the ball and a high-pass completion %.
Defensively I think he's poor (players running off him, weak in the challenge, fouls in bad areas), I haven't seen him create chances, he doesn't look like he can score goals, can't dribble, haven't seen any evidence of a quality long game and isn't great physically.
Personally, I think Britton is better.
Am I missing something?

a bit like Carrick then
Carrick is a big lad that can hold his own in midfield, his passing range is excellent, defensively he's one of the best midfielders you'll see (in terms of positioning, awareness, discipline) and he's created goals this season.
So no, not a bit like Carrick.
Yeah but Carrick is crap, that's the difference.
