Agreed Red Rob, Australia have some great movies. Another Aussie movie I want to see is "Snowtown." Meant to be really good and was raved about at the festivals.

You will definently like Sha Po Lan (Killzone), Donnie Yen vs Sammo Hung, best fight scene ever

I love Ip Man. When he just beats 10 men to the ground because he's a bit annoyed. Class.

I tried to watch a Bollywood movie but my mind exploded from the weirdness!

Wayne, how are Korean and Japanese movies received in India?

In fact, how are Korean and Japanese people thought of in India? Always wondered.

Bollywood covers a vast gamut. You get totally shiiite flicks or many others which are totally awesome. Its obvious though because Bollywood churns out more movies every year that Hollywood. Not to mention the regional movies (we have at least 10 regional film industries in different languages ffs).
I personally never warmed to the Japanese or Korean movies. However chinese movies have a little bit of an audience.

I saw amour last week and it is easily the best film of the past year - it is a harrowing subject matter btw.

City of God, Old Boy, Tsotsi, 101 Reykjavik, Jar City, The Prophet and Pan's Labyrinth are all sensational.

I know Bollywood grates - i recall going to see a Bollywood film in the cinema once and regretted it. No wonder they have intervals.

However, a special mention to 'My Name is Khan'. I thought the movie along Shah Rukh Khan was brilliant.

Red Cog

Yes. I did love that movie but maybe because it seems different from other Bollywood movies i've seen.

Was a bit more 'americanised' (if that's a good thing)

Having watched a few Bollywood films I know how irritating they can be. Especially with all the songs.

For me though the Korean films are the best ones, Japanese ones are hit and miss.

Red Rob

I suppose it was indeed - a big chunk of it was shot in the states and it was sans the irritating song and dance numbers that seems to afflict archetypical Bollywood flicks.

When talking about movies one should class American movies in 2 categories.

Mainstream and Independent ones.

The american indie film industry makes some amazing movies. Just as good as anything in Europe or Asia.

==========================
I don't agree. I know your idee fixe, Zoey Deschanel, is a regular indie actress but i doubt it.

Europe is streets ahead and then Asia. Talented actresses like Isabelle Huppert are as good Meryl Streep but they only get to ply their trade in art-house, Indie films.

American Indie? Good but not great
