3 years time yes (if he's still with us!) - keep the pressure off him, let him play with the freedom he has now and develop hopefully injury free - he was a live wire tonight though motm by miles

In a few years, currently Vermaelen is the right man for the job he has the correct temperament.

wasnt adams captain at 21?

I would say YES but our captains all leave us....PV4, TH14, CF4, RVP10...JW10?

Jack's a freak, pressure don't get to him. Leader now and always.

adams was capt at 21 but he was CB and different times then - can't get away with going out on the pss drink driving, prison and still be capt of a club

I don't see the point in putting this unnecessary burden on him he has only played 1 full season for gods sake

he will be capt and great one at that - why put him in charge of a team like the one we have now!

Why would you want to sell him?

Vermaelan isn't a natural leader, Wilshere is. I'm not having a dig at Verm but Wilshere should be captain. He's always had the burden on him but it doesn't faze him.

Wilshere should of been captain a long time ago

posted on 16/1/13

Tbh it doesn't really matter now, yes he should be our 'official' captain but he's definitely our leader anyway.

Vermaelen is the right guy in my opinion. His performances don't reflect a captain at the moment but his temperament and maturity is spot on. Wilshere is still a bit of a hot head in my opinion, you just need glance at some of his antics on and off field.

Maybe the time isn't now but I don't think Vermaelen has stepped up to the plate!

Yes please. Ask wenger to do it ASAP so that we can buy him....

Nah, these days all you need to do to be a captain is shág a teammates bird, constantly undermine management, racially abuse opposition or threaten to leave your club year on year.

Definitely a changing of the times.

Wilshere is a bit of a hothead

So was Vieira, that's what makes him so committed and a winner.

Well we weren't mentioned. The sentenced was claused with "captain of a club" not "captain of Arsenal football club."

Either way the threatening to leave the club every summer definitely stands - worked wonders for Vieira (as much as I loved the man) and Fabregas.

Captain's have to be a bit hot-headed. Cesc was our best captain in recent times and he was a bit of a too.
