Thank god for that. Maybe we will go for someone who can play instead.

Lack of transfers is getting worrying now. We definately need a LB and a DM.

Loans

Brilliant news...no Eustace.
The club appears to be going nowhere, yes we have made signings but clearly not enough....looks like the loans only route again with no quality.

moxey 400k - bryson around 400k
hulse and commons lets say 800k - shackell 900k/1mill
varney 750k - maguire, theo, ward and frank 1.4 mill
tyson - free

Including the wages saved from the big earners of sav, hulse, varney and commons plus the revenue of the season tickets etc......

the board have spent naff all. they now need to get there hand in there pockets and get us a out and out striker.....full back cover and a quality defensive midfielder.

Great news, feels like a new signing without being a new signing,i think.

@On The Roof

But the purchase of players is hardly the only expense involved with running a football club, so its not really fair to consider every single penny received from the sale of players as 'available transfer funds'.

I was as uninspired as everyone else when we expressed an interest in Mr Useless (based on his performance in a Rams shirt), but after speaking to the veritable legion of Hornets fans I know (well, 2 people, but I believe this is about 50% of their average home gate) it turns out he was quite good for them last season, and I’d kind of bought into the whole idea. Doh.

Which Burton/Alfreton/Il'son legend will we go for now?

Bring Bolder back

Personally, although it's not the most popular opinion, I'd have been right happy with having Eustace back as DM.

He wasn't in the best form when he played for us before but was good before and has been great since.

Michael Tonge and Danny Pugh!!!

If I'd won the EuroMillions @ £160,000,000 - I'd have bought them both for Nigel and still had about £156,000,000 left.

I think I'd even give him another few to freshen things up!

Ooh, Tonge - I'd forgotten about him. Still at Stoke? I'd have signed him after the loan spell...

I am guessing everyone is united on Tonge as the best choice?

morten im not saying it does mate but at the same time they have not invested in the squad like they said they was going to. Im not knocking the signings they have bought because there are some decent players in there and im happy with that but if they seriously think with the squad we have without the positions filled i mentioned before we have a chance of a top 10 finish then they are going to be in for a serious shock

Tonge is not a defensive midfielder. I thought he did well in his loan spell, but he's not the answer to this problem.

Maybe we should try someone like Nick Montgomery?

posted on 28/7/11

Also I think Joey O'Brien would be worth a look if West Ham don't offer him a contract.

No, Michael Tonge is definitely the starting point of ending this debacle. Personally, I am a firm believer (as I've said on previous threads) that he could play the strong, wise head in central midfield, while Danny Pugh could easily be our starting left-back, or cover in the central-midfield role!

Either way, we're all united in our want/need for a left-back, at least one more midfielder and another centre forward.

Failing that, I reckon Tonge could do us a job as a centre-forward. He's not blisteringly pacey, but is very mobile, very strong on the ball, has got good stamina, and can find the net!

Just a thought...

UTR!

Are you Tonge's agent?

Not only is he the defensive mid solution despite not being strong in the tackle, but he can also play centre forward.

I sincerely believe we need a specialist DM. I do not want to see someone shoehorned into this pivotal position.

Does your comment, due I believe in part to grammatical errors not contradict itself?

Okay so as we can't afford a decent HM with experience; i'd have been happy with Eustace having seen him last season but toughy putty our end, that leaves us with no CM ; so I guess we are playing a 4-6:

..................................Fielding..................................
............B'ford......S'kell......An'son......Roberts..........
.Croft...Cywka...Tyson...Ward...Maguire...S Davies

Out of the several thousand formations I've thought of this week this has made me the happiest ... bring on the Brum.

Could even be a 3-7 in attack with Brayford playing as an attacking full back.

I'll tell you what 2W, that doesn't look half bad on paper. Let's go for a glass half full approach, at least until we're a game or two into the season!

Good point Moj if it is going to be a tough season lets at least enjoy the pre - season
