Bit of a chicken an egg situation isn't it, do we wait in the hope of securing C.L and then use it as a carrot to lure better quality or do we take the plunge now to ensure that we do actually qualify?

I agree it does seem like a we have two options really.

Either we get a striker in now to secure Champions League for next season, and not sign another striker in the next window.

Or rely on Defoe, Dempsey, and Adebayor for this season, and then buy a striker superior to what we would get this transfer window.

Personally I think what we have at the moment is good enough to get us CL for this season.Then for next season we can get a much better striker, which will benefit us in the long term.

If Weare's the brains of this outfit I'm very, very worried for us.

I completely agree with the OP, I wrote a similar article the other week, all I keep hearing is we need a "20 goal a season striker" now but it's just not realistic in January. RVP, Rooney and Aguero were the only players who scored 20+ in the prem last season, Adebayor and Dempsey scored 17. We need to secure CL and then we'll be able to afford and attract a prolific striker from overseas, but if Defoe gets injured then we are facked.

You do know the significance of the 20+ PL goals per season stat.

All I know is those player took their teams to top 3

The team that finishes top 2 nearly always has a 20+ PL goals per season striker that season.

Hi Dill welcome I must admit I lurk here a lot to.
We do need to sign a top class striker as JD seems to have gone off the boil a bit.
