Insua was terrible. He made Djimi Traore look like Philip Lahm he was that bad.
No pace, couldn't tackle, always out of position with the turning circle of the Exon Valdez.
Disappointing as he looked a top player when he came through but one bad spell and the fickle were on his back and he was shipped out. It's a shame too as Riise was sold, Aurelio was always injured and Konchesky was crap. He could have got himself into good form again and made the position his own.
I didn't think he was too bad. A case of being overplayed due to lack of cover, then having a bad spell, and we were not able to take him out of the firing line, so his confidence was shot...
His confidence must have been shot before he ever kicked a ball.
Agree with everything knotty said. Could put a decent ball into the box and that was about it. 1 on 1 defending was awful
That's strange as our fans were waxing lyrical about him when he first broke through, due firstly to his performances in the reserves and then his great step up to the first team. The following season he took a dip in form and couldn't be replaced as we had no options there and he suffered from it. Since then he has went from Turkey to Portugal, going up a level and now teams in Spain are looking at bringing him up another one. I always thought he'd be a top player and it seems, if he keeps his improvement up, that'll come true.
Insua was crap. Also you say "another liverpool reject who has done well"
I could probably count on one hand the number of players in the last 10 years who's career has sincerely progressed since we got rid of them. We are generally pretty patient with most players.
True he started off well. Personally I was impressed with his attacking play. But he soon got found out to be very weak at the back and cripplingly slow.
I thought he looked a good player for us. He was very raw though and had a couple of dodgy matched and some of our fans got on his back, they way they are with Flanno at the moment.
Insua wouldn't be going to Atletico if he wasn't a top player.
I find this line that people on here trot out ridiculous - 'found out'.
That's not true aggers. Plenty of good teams buy poor players.
cant help but feel that is a bad move for him at his age, filipe is a fantastic full back and he has zero chance of getting ahead of him, i thought there would have been clubs of a similar stature where he would be first choice
I couple of years being second choice at a top club will only do him good. Filipe will be thirty ion a couple of years and Insua will be entering into his prime.
I never thought he was crap, he just wasn't ready to be playing regularly.
Insua didn't have enough experience to excel at left back for us.
Opponents used to put a tall attacker on him all the time and he would always lose out allowing for an attack from his side.
Good to see the lad doing well but I don't think he will ever come back to the prem.

This. Teams targeted him and he got punished. I liked him though and I'd still have him in the squad myself. I like Robbo though and I feel he should get more games.
How many players have left us to go on to better things??
He was a good prospect but nothing more. At this stage in his career it seems we made the right decision
Alonso? Mascherano?
Mikel San Jose's doing decent at Bilbao, so too is El Zhar at Levante.
