reading his book is no substitute for remembering him as a player. i'll take my memories over your book any day of the week.

I wasn't saying read his book as a dig in this argument, I would recommend it to any Spurs fan that hasn't read it.
===============

fair enough.

regarding my original point on this thread, my honest view is :

-was el tel partly to blame for gazza's state of mind ? YES

-did his state of mind lead to his injury ? YES

-did his injury ruin his career ? It depends what is meant by 'ruin', but I firmly believe it stopped him achieving sporting greatness.

-is it that unfilled talent that has caused his mental distress and illnesses ? I don't know enough about it to say so categorically, and there are probably various factors involved, but I would strongly suspect that it is at least a very major factor in the situation, and probably the most significant factor.

ive only just noticed that that video clip I put on of the cup final is called "gazza's downfall"

I might read the book sometime, but im not that fussed about it. I like watching clips of him playing and other people saying how great a player he was and stuff like that, but im not that bothered about reading about his childhood and that personally. i'd rather read a rugby autobiography than a football one.
