RVP has been better than Rooney for the past 2 years, that's it. For the rest of their respective careers, Rooney has been the better player, no doubt.
Having said that, I don't think there is currently as much between them as many think. RVP is more consistent, but take yesterday for example, Rooneys touch, control, passing etc was exquisite.
By comparing them, you are necessitated to put one of them down by saying the other is better.
So why put them up for comparison since they both play for United and both are very good. Just consider yerselves lucky!!!!
Rooney has to help in midfield otherwise we get overrun.
If we had a more solid midfield he wouldn't have too, that's my opinion.
Agreed. Two top midfielders were bought in rooneys game would improve the most at the club in my opinion.

RVP is world class and everyone agrees, hence I use him as benchmark to praise Rooney
I think the midfield is fine. In modern football the No.10 is generally required to do a bit of work in midfield. Thankfully, Rooney does that bit extra. Carrick and Cleverley are playing really well and Anderson - Wednesday aside - has performed well this season, too. It was only when Scholes was starting was Rooney playing as a proper midfielder.
What I'm saying is, our midfield could be Toure and Schweinstieger and Rooney would still be occupying the same positions. The midfield has been good for months now. I continue to stress that the deep defence helps nobody other than Rio, and is the main reason we get pinned back at times. So, I don't think a lot would change in Wayne's game unless we had two bona fide defensive midfielders sitting behind him, which I don't think anyone would like.
Kagawa, we do tend to get overrun but I guess that's mostly down to sides having 5 men in midfield and 1 up front against us.
I just think we need someone like Vidal and it could free up Rooney a bit more.
Oh don't get me wrong, we definitely need a combative midfielder that puts pressure on the other team and gets stuck in - basically the Fletcher of 2009 - I just think the midfield has been generally very good since we got Carrick and Cleverley playing every week. It's not incredible or anything, but it's decent enough for now.

Think you would have to chain Rooney in the box to stop him tracking back...don`t think he can help doing it...it`s his game..comes too naturally.
Yeah true, that's just his nature.
But I think he does plays better when he is forward and not running about chasing people down.
Would also agree with that. Rooney's probably played like that since he was 10. Wouldn't want to stop that now.

Anyway the purpose was not to put down RVP or Rooney
Just wanted to praise Rooney's scoring record.
Great to have them both, and more importantly they play well together.
The great combination play with RVP and Rooney benefits the team with their complimentary skills.
Left foot better with RVP, right foot with Rooney, touch skills and control with RVP, dribbling and power with Rooney etc. etc.
RVP is easily a better striker, and a better finisher too.
If Rooney can continue to play like he did yesterday then I wouldn't have a problem with him. Some of the short, quick and intricate exchanges of passing between him and Nani especially and Cleverley and RVP were a joy to watch at times. His finish was what I've come to expect of him because as I've said time and time again, his finishing has improved a lot over the last few years, so has his positioning and movement inside the area. He always seems to be in the right place at the right time to score a goal.
Yesterday was as good as he's played in terms of all round play and goals as I've seen in a while and I really hope he can continue to perform like that because on that sort of form, he's still a massive player for us, there's no doubt about it.
People get frustrated with him because we expect so much more from him at times well at least I do because I expect his touch to be better, I expect his passing to be better and like he did last night, I expect him to have a run at the defence and take on a defender every once in a while. I want to see him playing further forward and dropping off into that space between the opposition's midfield and defence rather than playing in a deeper midfield position.
Now that he's back from injury and looking fit, his performances should hopefully go from strength to strength and with Rooney and RVP fit and firing up front, we should be nion impossible to stop at least in the league anyway.
RVP:
Corners, Dribbling, First touch, Free-Kicks,Long shots, Penalties, Technique, Flair, Balance, Short Passing, Anticipation
Rooney:
Finishing, Heading, Long Passing, Aggression, Decision-making, Off the ball, Positioning, Team-work, Work-rate, Acceleration, Agility, Pace, Strength, Stamina.
Even:
Crossing, Bravery, Composure, Determination.
That's how I see it.
Speaking of strikers, anyone see the names of the hartlepool goalscorers yesterday??
Rooney was/ is never WORLD CLASS.
Big time Charlie springs to mind.
As they say in soccer/football, Fergie never forgets, and Rooney will have his day as they say.
When I said Rooney will have his day, I'm sure most of you will appreciate that Ferguson never forgets.
And truth be told, that big time Charlie's days are numbered at your club.
Never forget. He'll be gone out of old Trafford before fergie that's for sure.
I disagree with an earlier comment. Its the other way around
Rvp is the finisher
Rooney is the better playmaker
Bossman
Rooney out of OT before SAF. Only if SAF stays another ten years (and anything is possible)...However apart from that, the statement is somewhat foolhardy.(but anything, as I say, is possible)
