This seems to give mins on the pitch. Goals scored is easy to find!

As I see it, relegation had a lot to do with diminishing posters. Look at attendances when we were relegated, down by around 8000. This board is no different, people lose interest when things aren't going well.

It may have been different if we were vying for promotion but the season has been a disaster. Hopefully things will be different next season but only time will tell. At the moment the club is in free fall. It can be arrested but it needs to be turned around quickly.

Without wanting to offend anybody, I think that endless threads full of nothing but stats put people off too.

Stats are a guide, not an absolute.

And they're very, very boring.........

TCT - we'll have to agree to disagree about stats being boring. I'm sure there are things that you enjoy that I find boring. That's just life.

What is boring though is the comments on this thread. I am so angry with myself for engaging with Petrov on this subject again. I have told my missus to hide the iPad when I am drinking. Drunken ramblings are not good

CEF. Cravies is right about Knight being a Coyle signing. He was an out of contract free agent when we re-signed him.

As for Sordell, he is by far our most efficient striker at the moment. There's not much doubting that really. However, stats don't prove everything because football isn't black and white.

As for the point of the article. I read a lot more than I comment. Sometimes because I haven't got anything as mind blowingly interesting and incisive as this comment. Other times, because I mainly come on here at lunch, by the time I read the thread nobody has commented on it for a good few hours, maybe a day, so I don't bother adding anything.

I do like your bickering on here, CEF and Cravies, reminds me of me and my other half at home, but with the added layer of crackling sexual tension you two have and we've sadly lost at home.

Didn't we only sign Knight on again because Wheater was out till now(ish) and there were problems getting more re-enforcements in other than Matt Mills?

Just saying. There's always another reason.

posted on 8/2/13

I was convinced that Knight was gone until half time on the West Brom game - when 'sink chin' Wheater kicked a ball too hard and did his knee.

posted on 8/2/13

I don't disagree about knights ability. All I am saying is no one forced coyle to sign him. There are other options if you have a rubbish player then let him go. I also reckon he may now be one of the better paid players too. His current contract was given to him by Coyle that's it.

There are two threats from Space due in the next few weeks. First the biggest Solar Flare is expected. Secondly a 45mile wide meteor is due to pass the closest to earth in man's time on the planet.

Both have the power to radically change the world for a long time.

Reports from someone within NASA who knows about space, says it is Coyle's fault!!!!

Pfft.

That's religion for ya.

But of course relegation wasn't one of them

I get the point that, when we're doing badly (as per last season) there's usually a high volume of posts. But we're doing badly (very badly) this season ..and the nos have dwindled. I think that's down to the fact that last season, we all argued the toss about changing the manager. This season ...despite continued poor results, the post of manager is no longer a real debating topic, as it's plainly obvious that DF will keep his job - whether Bolton go down again, or not ...so " what's the point?? " many folk will say, and to that end, they won't bother posting, unlessl there's a dramatic change in our fortunes. Can't say I blame 'em, TBH .... I can't take to DF in much the same way as I couldn't take to GM from Day One either ......IMO he's only here for the money, and simply isn't good enough to take over at a club which was in the Prem less than a year ago. Yes, he'll get time to change things; but I just don't like or rate him ...but hey ...that's just a personal opinion ..... and if he proves me wrong, and we suddenly ' burst into life ' .... then maybe I'll revise that opinion

Spot on, Hector.

If you take away all the arguing between the differing factions over how our manager was doing - Allardyce, Sammy Lee (to a lesser extent 'cos he was only here for ten minutes) Megson and Coyle, there wasn't a lot left on here or the old site in terms of football discussion.

Then minus out all the tedious "I think Saturday's team / formation should be XXX" articles and what have you got left?

Not a right lot.

I really think we suffer from having a fairly small fan base.

We just haven't got the committed numbers who will actively contribute to internet forums like the big teams do.

And we've lost Bricks......

CEF. Have you not had the time to put together the stats on Van Persie and Le Fondre or was Cravies right? I'm genuinely interested, Van Persie is obviously the better striker, but if Cravies is right the stats would show the opposite.

posted on 9/2/13

His figures on the two players were ver so slightly out. I guess the data he used doesn't account for injury time.... BUT

In Prem

Van Persie 118

Le Fondre 113

So yes, Le Fondre scores a goal every 5 mins less than RVP.

That is actually a very close stat as RVP has played twice as many minutes as LF.

Hardly compares to KD having a strike rate THREE times higher than Sordell.

I know stats bore people, but in the right context they do facilitate debate!!!!!

posted on 9/2/13

No they don't !!

They turn people off. Honest.

Sorry, CEF but endless lists of stats make people scan through stuff without any real interest.

They're sheet.

I know.... I analyse 'em all feckin day and they're bobbins.

The decline in standard of football in the last five years has not helped at all.Since Sam left I almost enter the stadium expecting us to lose, and even if we win not expecting expansive football.
Maybe its easier come on here and moan/rant thats why Its here perhaps, its nice to find a sounding board.
DF has obviousley seen the problems/dead wood and on paper has maybe seen to bring better players in.I believe pre season we should have brought in seasoned players in this league available and played the loan market better with young PL players. Our stock is now diminishing rapidly though sadly we cant bring in new talent like that.
Still fear another Coventry,Sheff Wed etc.

TCT - zzzzzzzzz

I was asked a question - therefore i answered. I only provide figures when people ask. Since I do it regularly, that would suggest you are in a minority.

I'm sure there is plenty that excites you that others find boring. That's human nature.

posted on 9/2/13

So seeing as SKD has played much more than Sordell yet Sordell is better currently. Therefore the same applies to AFL and RVP. I have proved that the use of game time and goals us pointless as it does not prove who was better.

posted on 9/2/13

No you haven't.

How can you compare 118 and 113

with 397 and 118

KD is over 3 times higher than Sordell, whereas there is no real margin between RVP and Le Fondre.

posted on 9/2/13

Course you can. I am only saying stats prove nothing. RVP is better but stats say not. Therefore stats are wrong as you can't be can't as confident as you claim about Sordell
