Wenger nearly cracked it

HE didn't destroy it.

Well why are those young players now playing for other top clubs. He wanted to build a great team with youngsters and experience, he had it and he let it all go down the pan.

I'll make the point again, HE didn't let it all 'go down the pan' back in 07-08.

what young players at top clubs apart from cesc fabregas and may be song?

he tryed to sell A Cole

It's a good philosophy until those young players that we've worked so hard nurturing are sold to our rivals

And he had nothing to do with it!

Just silly things like not renewing Flamini earlier, being soft with Cesc who still had a good 4 or 5 yrs left on his contract. He broke up a team with real potential, surely you'd wanted Jack playing in the same team as these two.

Flamini was awful before that 07/08, you can see why he wasn't given a contract. Cesc saga showed how much power a player has these days

You think he actually wanted to sell Flamini/Cesc/Nasri/RVP?

Flamini refused to sign a new contract, Cesc begged Barca to come and get him, Nasri saw the oil money and was turned after one half decent season, and RVP publicly criticized the club and was courting City/Man U for months before we sold him. After 7 years on the physio table and one good season...

Flamini stepped up that season, he earned a new deal. He would of been the perfect dm for us.

And he was offered one, he refused to sign because he wanted to go Milan, where he sat on the bench for a few seasons before disappearing all together, I havn't a clue where he is now.

Don't know about cracking 'it' – sounds more like he's cracking up.

Yes he wanted to sell, look at the money he's made on those players. He was quoted saying it would be catastrophic if we sold Cesc and Nasri, then sells them both. Ok Nasri was a little harder to keep as his contract was out, Cesc tho c mon. Be stronger and firmer and he stays.

If Flamini was offered a deal it wasn't good enough. Pay to keep your best players and we progress as a club. Simples.

the board would be too scared to lose wenger, if he really wanted to spend big money on world class players im sure the board would have folded if wenger said he'd go if he didnt get the money

posted on 18/2/13

You actually think wenger was ok with selling his best player, clearly the board were more interested in the money

posted on 18/2/13

i dont wenger put much of a fight tbh

if he put an ultimatum up saying:

we either force rvp to stay or you lose both me and him

the board would have forced him to stay for another year

posted on 18/2/13

Of course Wenger was ok with it or he wouldn't be here now. He has a massive influence with ins and outs.

We were unplayable at times that season.

posted on 18/2/13

There's no way them players would av been sold had he stood up to the board. He's as good as part of the whole set up.

posted on 18/2/13

If the board are doing things against Wenger's will then he would walk. Don't fool yourselves into thinking otherwise.

posted on 18/2/13

im agreeing with you batmanu

i said wenger would challenge the board with an ultimatum if he wanted to keep those players. the board dont want to lose wenger and if he gave an ultimatum they would have folded. the very fact that the best players have been sold prove that wenger was fine with it

Wenger wanted to resign Flamini. The club spent months negotiating with him, but ultimately, he decided it was his dream to move to Milan.

Wenger does not want to slowly dismantle the club he has worked so hard at building; the comparative lack of financial muscle in the transfer market is where the problem lies.

Removing Wenger will not remove the frugality that has held this club back for so long.

I didn't say I wanted him removed. I'm just saying that he's let himself down. And any player is resignable if the desire to keep him is there from the manager and the board.
