We have until July to ask for an extension

Without one it's virtually impossible to agree a deal
----------------------------------------------------------------------

That deadline is not sacrosanct. In fact they expect any breakthrough to a deal to be in end Oct for ratification. Starmer also not pushing for any extension for July.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Starmer is playing it cool and knowing that he will benefit from chaos
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Absolutely no point of him making any comments on Brexit and he doesn't have to since it is not the burning matter right now. Just let Johnson and his crew screw things up and he will collect points automatically.

And it's an official deadline to agree an extension, it's suits both sides to come to an agreement but that doesn't mean the EU will be charitable with us if we don't ask for an extension before 30th
----------------------------------------------------------------------
EU do not have the upper hand anymore m8.

Not sure how he does that. You can only take advantage of something if you have a declared position beforehand.

Its absolutely true. Not because the UK has strengthened its position in any way. They have not. However the EU is in a far weakened position economically and the divisions have been laid bare. Especially between Germany and the ECJ. That will have a massive impact on the ECB. It will be hard enough to cope with the fallout from Covid on countries that had endemic unemployment but with Germany in recession and in no mood for any more handouts makes it much harder for other countries to oppose the Germans. Germany and UK are far closer to a deal than other countries eg Spain and fishing.

Fair enough. This must be the demise of the EU the British has been talking about since early 2010.

Unless they have been talking of supremacy of the German court system in something as important as Corona bonds. Then no.

EU has been far more successful in managing both the health and economic impact of Covid19. They also have the goodwill of the people on their side

And don't talk about fishing like it's actually important, our fisherman regularly sell off their quota

If anything the response to Covid is what strengthens the union rather than breaks it

Just because you were dumb enough to vote leave doesn't mean what you say is true

Because fishing is not important to the Germans. However access to capital markets for private funding is in a recession. That access is threatened if that access is closed in a no deal. So it depends on how much pressure they can apply to countries where fishing rights are the biggest hurdle to a deal. We have already left the EU. So stop charging at windmills. This is all about what kind of deal we can come to with the EU with different countries wanting different things.

You haven't explained how we have the upper hand?

You haven't exposed any lack of knowledge on my part, no doubt there is some but your just throwing out insults tbh

You seem to think I'm saying there will be no Brexit when what I'm saying is there will be no deal... You know what that means right?

Crouch do you even live in UK? Because its almost cut of your nose to spite your face with all the animosity I get from your posts on anything positive abt the UK.

Read my post again. I never said we have the upper hand. I said the EU don't have the upper hand anymore.

Both the UK and the EU are now desperate to get a deal. Neither party can afford a no deal post covid for many different reasons across the EU. Every country is suffering and frankly don't need another manufactured crisis that can be avoided. The EU is not as unified as before. Thats a fact. Thats what I was alluding to.
