He just signed an extension. No chance for it to happen.

Its happened before. Club signs the player to an extension to protect his value. The dynamic that encouraged Xhaka to seek an exit still exist, may have even got worse after Brentford.

That true but only work for players who are in demands. There were literally just one club for him and even then, they were not willing to pay the asking fee. Not sure tying up to a longer contract would "protect" any value.

They do have the money as shown by Tammy acquisition. So maybe his contract situation dictated his worth. I am not so convinced that is over. Its obvious someone like Aouar would make a better target to play the ball out of defence than Xhaka.

I thought so. I think its someone giving his opinion rather than one of their reporters. He then went onto say the buy back clause doesn't make sense if its at the same value as his signing. First refusal actually means that they can match whatever offer comes in for him in the future. Which makes much more sense.
