Why should he lie to protect a player who has been taking the p1ss with the club? A player others are supposed to look up to, so will have been actively bringing the standards at the club down.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Because you don't have a replacement ready.
Now if thats not important Arteta and he is ok with Eddie and Laca then fine. There is no issue and it shouldn't be used as an excuse for not getting the CL!

That was after further indiscrestions.
You can sincerely get past something in good faith, but then if those issues keep reoccurring then you're undoubtedly gonna fall out again and it will be worse the second time because it shows a pattern of disrespect rather than just making a mistake.

In an ideal world yes, but we tried and failed.
Keeping him around on extortionate wages to just keep up the numbers is the same thing that happened with Ozil and we got slated for it.
Honestly best to just get it over with and start looking forward.

Sorry. Lots of posts in between. I should have used the replied button.
I was saying it was serious enough for the relationship to collapse and lose his captaincy after the second misdemeanour (whatever that was, being late back from Paris). So obviously they weren't past it as tbag suggested and dj emphasised.
I personally think you can be over something that happened in the past. If they apologize and move forward then there's no issue.
If they keep doing it, then the apology was obviously hollow and there's little respect being shown.
As I see it the issue wouldn't be with Arteta not being able to get past the first rule break, it would be the pattern of Auba continually doing it.

I agree after all that captaincy stuff was played out in the media. All I am saying is that its should have never been allowed to get that far if it had been handled quietly not in the public gaze. A bit like how Tuchel has done it. The problem is that its still self-inflicted.

I think the fact that there doesn't seem to be any fallout in the players says quite a lot. No doubt he was really popular within the squad, but I imagine from the lack of reaction that his behaviour had got to the point of the squad being unable to defend him so not really being that bothered by it.
if it had been handled quietly not in the public gaze. A bit like how Tuchel has done it.
====
With Lukaku? That was very public. And Lukaku's apology was very public. And then Tuchels criticism of Lukaku's performance a week later was also very public. Not really sure of your point here.
I've not really been following the Lukaku situation but I thought there had been quite a lot of public back and forth, despite him maintaining his place in the team.

Aye, ozil was playing out of his skin before the contract. Then he was missing all our away games with flu or back problems. Wenger kept it all quiet and look how it turned out.

Do you think Lukaku's apology was sincere? I don't. I think it was done so that Lukaku was still an option for this season and a band aid was applied on the relationship between Tuchel and Lukaku for that purpose in public.

Wenger gave him the contract. He didn't have to.
Tuchel: "The situation is too big, so Lukaku is not in the squad."
Lukaku apologised and claimed it was a misunderstanding and he was just saying bye to Inter.
Tuchel : "There will be some discipline action and he will accept it... The more the story went on I had a clear opinion and I was more than happy that it was OK for the club to go with it."
Apart from the apology from the player, not a lot of difference to the way Auba was handled.

I think Tuchel climbed down in the background and probably decided to kick the can down to the summer. I suspect one of Tuchel or Lukaku will go next summer.
However from Auba's own words, "He made the decision. I can't say much more. He wasn't happy, I stayed very calm and that's it.", Areteta didn't.
And I am not being critical of Arteta for deciding to sell Auba. Its just that keep it quiet and maybe we could have got Isak at a lower price if it wasn't so obvious that Auba was gone. Excluding him from Saudi Arabia, allowing him to go to Acon early etc. There were many points when the others didn't know that Auba/Arteta was irreparable. Whats more they could have agreed in the background to keep Auba involved till the summer if a replacement was not found.
We wasn't going to get Isak at a cheap price anyhow
Yeah Isak signed a new deal 6 months ago, they've no reason to sell below that release clause.
