It's funny, at the time, we wanted a complete opposite to what we have now which was a striker with pace

For a striker, Giroud link up play is one of the best I have seen.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Dont know about that. But his link up play is one of his main strength. Even when he had a bad game he was able to produce that kind of magic. Auba in contrast.....
His link up play is the most overrated aspect of his game.

Giroud contributed a lot more to the team overall than Laca and Auba.
Laca could do it but just seemed unable to do it in the right areas and Auba couldn't be bothered. Plus having them both they seemed to reinforce negative behaviour, which is something Giroud was never known for around the club.

No, it's the opposite
No, everyone says his link up play is v.good. it wasn't. The amount of moves that broke down because of him is insane.
Credit to him though, he was still involved in some great team goals. But he did have peak ozil, peak cazorla, rosicky, wilshere and even Ramsey to work with.

Are we now entering some kind of Giroud at Arsenal revisionism stage, or something?
Truth is, he was never the kind of striker suited to Wenger-ball, so for Arsenal at least, wasn’t great at all.
There’s a reason he’s been so successful at other clubs. He’s a good player, no doubt, and would/should’ve been a great Plan B for us.
As a regular starter though, his time at Arsenal was really pretty average.
Happy he’s done well since leaving us though.
