Not really. Keeping clean sheets isn't the problem. It's scoring enough goals against quality opposition IMO.

You can't rely dissociate the two though. Maybe the coach would have taken more risks and push forward if he had Campbell/Ferdinand type of players instead of Maguire who has the turning circle of Jupiter.

Naaah. I get your point but Southgate wouldn't set the team up any different IMO. This is his style. He's got some of the best attackers in the world and still sets up defensively.

Thats not true though. The reason why we beat Iran so comprehensively was mainly because we pushed up and compressed space. That speeded up our transitions and gave good ball to the wide players.

We conceded two very poor goals against Iran and that in my opinion changed the WC for England. After that Southgate dropped deep with Maguire and Stones consequently we had a very poor performance against the US. And Southgate never got that right. If he doesn't change that England won't do anything meaningful in the Euros.

So we'll see if he makes changes before the Euros.

Also means replacing Pickford with Ramsdale. Playing a high line requires the GK to sweep and distribute quickly. Pickford is pretty awful at that.
