Why though? Surely you want to find a manager capable of qualifying for the CL consistently first and then build a team around him? All clubs have injuries, so that really can't be used as an excuse. The skill of a good manager is to not let that sink you. Arsenal weren't expected to challenge City last season, and they are doing so again this season. Proves Arteta is a good manager.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
If Arsenal had the injuries Newcastle have had this season (the worst hit team in the league - even worse than Chelsea and Man U who have whined endlessly), we'd have struggled to finish top 4. Saying "every team has injuries" is BS. I remember when players like RVP and even Rosicky would come back from their seasonal long absences and give the team a big lift.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You don’t know what would have happened if we had an injury crisis on Newcastle’s scale. Also, our injury record has been among the best in the league for the last 3 seasons so it’s not really down to luck.
Sheriff trying to belittle Arsenal, what a surprise.

Whether our injury record is a function of "luck" or not is besides the point (I personally think we just have less sicknotes than the latter Wenger years where half the team where regularly in and out the treatment room). I'm saying if we had as much as a dozen regular squad members out like Newcastle had at points this season, we'd have struggled badly.
Of course that claim and any claim otherwise is entirely hypothetical, but given how our supporting cast have performed this season, it's an educated guess.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Not really. We've been one of the unluckier teams with injuries for years and deserve our current "luck" with them (City also have a very good injury record, so it's not like we have better luck than they do). I just found it absurd to dismiss injuries as a legitimate reason for Newcastle's mid-season struggles and was pointing out any team (ourselves included) would struggle with their injury list.
Dortmund still qualify for CL though
They qualified for that ages ago.

I cosign this. Poor touch and decision making. But he's got intelligent movement. Good athlete. Good workrate. Doesn't hide or let his head drop, however much criticism. Needs to improve his composure and execution though.

Interesting that Newcastle are not talking firing Eddie Howe, but more about selling big stars. Doesn't sound like Sauds are too interested in them anymore.

And the best way to comply with that is to qualify for the CL consistently. That also builds your brand and revenue streams from abroad.
