I did expect more last summer but then Chelsea and Newcastle dropped their interest around Jan. But then Ramsdalde camp stopped the extra noises about leaving so since I've felt he is ok to stay. But if he forced a move I thought we should get back the money we spent so that we could buy a decent replacement with prospects. So that if we did have to replace Raya mid battle we don't losing anything in quality.

With decent outgoings covering our first two signings and seemingly going cheap on a keeper, I guess we'd be in a good position to splurge on something big in the forward positions if the opportunity comes up?

Who do you think will be that big signing?

I'd have no idea tbh but if someone like Nico Williams or Osimhen comes available then hopefully we'd be in a great position to swoop in. I don't think it will be either of them.

I wouldn't be surprised if we got some Real Madrid castoff given how stacked their squad is, but that might not happen until next summer.

My issue is that Arteta seems set on his starters. I wondered if Jesus would be willing to move wider (position he occupied a lot for City) to replace Martinelli. That would allow a new starting striker and Havertz in midfield. But then Merino is close to signing and is he being bought to start or be a backup?

I really feel one reason why Havertz didn't click so well in the no.8 position was Jesus constantly dropping deep into Havertz's space.

Ideally we should sell Jesus to the Saudi's and buy a proper striker.

The more of his own players that Arteta is bringing in the more he has to trust the squad though, he has no excuse not to.

I wouldn't mind keep Jesus as 3rd choice CF and back up for the wings, but I don't want him near our strongest first 11 and I agree that he can't play with Havertz.

Didn't Arteta turn over the squad quite a while ago? The squad last year were all his players or those he gave contract extensions?

🚨🔴⚪️Mikel Merino to Arsenal, here we go! Deal in place between clubs for package in excess of €30m with add-ons.

Merino agreed on long term deal and he also spoke to Arteta ahead of move.

Real Sociedad accepted the proposal and he’s now set to sign.

The first 11 for sure, but we have players like Eddie, Reiss Nelson & ESR on the bench from the academy, who are all being shipped out now. Zinchenko seemed to lose his trust, then players like Timber, Tomi & Vieira were injured a lot so that doesn't leave a huge amount of his squad to trust.
