All those players apart from Balogun played like 100+ games for us too before me moved them on for decent money.

You find Chelsea, Liverpool and City moving on players after a handful of games for similar money and it’s because they seem to get more first team exposure and much more successful loans

Jeorge Bird posted earlier this week, we currently have no academy players out on loan.

That is very worrying.

I think a number of our fans underestimate how weirdly run we are. One major reason we lose a lot of money in transfers is signing players with low sell-on value. And it impacts our capacity to reinvest in the squad. Daniel Levy wouldn't sign a player close to 30 like Merino in the final year of his contract for over £30m. Tottenham and Liverpool spend as much as we do on transfers, but make a lot more from sales. Merino's signing is just inexplicable and I don't understand why we couldn't invest that in someone that offers us something more progressive. We didn't need Calafiori either when we had like 4 players who could all cover at LB (before MLS even came through to add another option).

It's clear that we won't be very active in the market this January because the money isn't there. Which is why we should have been a tad more judicious in how our money was spent in the summer.

Never been convinced by the manager but I think this week has confirmed things for me.

He needs to go at the end of the season

The Merino signing was such a weird one even without hindsight. It’s just one of those where Arteta has credit in the bank so you expect him to see something nobody else has. Of all the players in the Spanish squad he had to go for fecking Merino.

Last season people were moaning about Kiwior at left back (and CB), the season before Zinchenko. We definitely needed another CB, and one who can play LB was a bonus. Shame we bought another injury prone player to add to Tomiyasu.
