Napoli came in and were happy to pay the £32m, and we didn't want to match.
-------------------------------
Unfortunately thats the issue. Mid-level of clubs of the past are willing to spend big. Which means Draxler in the summer is far from guaranteed. And frankly if Theo is back for start of next season, I don't see how Draxler can have an immediate impact in the position he plays now (wing). It would take a season or two to adjust to striker.
But in Jan, Draxler can add that x-factor against top clubs. It makes more sense now and really Wenger should not hesitate.
You heard about Dortmund's f/ck up last weekend?
Hang on, let me find a link.

WTF Olivier!
Who does Giroud think he is, wane rooney??
"We all know about players scoring against their old teams but players scoring against their future teams is perhaps even more uncomfortable for everyone concerned. Ji Dong-won had only been on the pitch in Dortmund for a couple of minutes when he headed the 2-2 equaliser for Augsburg, where he'll spend six months on loan before going to … Dortmund"
Imagine if Arsene had done that. Klopp in!
People need to get over this myth that we NEED a CF for this hold up play s hiz. We've been without a out and out CF for about 15 combined years of Wengers reign and were fine.
People need to get over the fact that in the time we had some world class CF and achieved nothing for 9 years. So Wenger tried a different approach under restricted financial issues.
"Dortmund in talks to sign Spurs' Lewis Holtby."
Wow. Dortmund have really fallen off the map man.
Dortmund in real trouble due to an injuries crisis and the fact that Lewandowski is cack since a few weeks and also Reus not playing to his best.

RVP is not a CF.

our main striker though

The team has been set up with a 'big guy up front' focus for the past two seasons.
What we need as much as anything is another Giroud-type to take the strain off him, not necessarily play alongside him.
Wenger seems to think Bendtner can at least temporarily fulfill that role, hence going for Draxler makes sense.
Don't particularly want to clog-up the squad with temporary fixes.

It's Giroud, TBOK
My point is, people have gone over the top with all this stuff about NEEDING a CF to 'hold up play' and win flick ons and so on.
This isn't the only way to play attacking football. You can play with other types of strikers.

But competition would hurt Giroud's feelings.
Lex, I wanted Suarez more than anyone else coming in the last summer. We would have replaced OG or play alongside him especially at home when we have to break down teams with a solid defense.

Giroud slipping a white envelope into his suit pocket.
It's on his instagram and he's captioned it:
'Money in the envelope for a new player, or not?'
So basically instead of signing a new striker we've given our transfer budget to Giroud.
My point is, people have gone over the top with all this stuff about NEEDING a CF to 'hold up play' and win flick ons and so on.
My point is that this attributes are underrated by some regarding the way we approach the game now. We all need that OG isnt a goalscorer or someone who can change games but in our current system he is important and vital at the moment.
Giroud's suits don't come cheap, Dot.

I, for one, fully back this financial decision.
At the end of the day, (Brian) who gives a sh/t which Arsenal player scores as long as we win matches?
