It's hard to go back, mainly because I'll have to start again building new friends and stuff, I'm at the age when my friends are getting married off, so no one to hang out with.

Heard salaries are now very similar in Oz for ppl with the right qualifications (one of my consultants emigrated there). Have you found that to be case?

Yeah I'm just on secondment so get paid my normal wage + an allowance for living etc

Bit of a weird market for jobs here, most people commute 50 miles + into a major city for work. Salaries are good but also cost of living is very high.

Chris - I think if you want to live abroad long term, go for it sooner rather than later. You can always come back to the UK.

Really? I expected cost of living to be cheaper. I always felt London was the most expensive city to live in the world. But I suppose inflation has been quite low for a while now if you take out housing compared to other countries.

travel and housing is expensive in the UK, other things like food vary.

Fruit and veg ( mostly cheaper in Spain) but specialist stuff not really.

Chicken and beef is expensive in spain
Pork (I hate) is cheap
Organic food is way way overpriced, (england 10 years ago)
Electronics, stuff for the home (cheaper in the UK, more competition)

Yeah it is pretty expensive, probably central London is more expensive than central Sydney but that's about it.

Yeah I know abt Spain, as half my family live there. But you keep on hearing how Oz is so cheap to emigrate to from ppl. Its good to find out from someone actually there that its different in reality compared to the PR spin they put out.
