Vidic Is The Greatest PL Era Center Back

Vc,

One of the best signings Fergie made. If we'd have had him replacing Hansen we wouldn't have been so ropey for a few years. He fitted like a glove with Bruce.

It happens, with generation clashes but I'd certainly advise some of your younger fans to watch footage of Pallister early 90s.

I'd bet if any nationwide poll of this sort was done he wouldn't get near the top of the vote when in reality he was a more natural defender than most.

As you mention our own it reminds me of Lawro. Some who even seen him wont recognise how good he was. Now he's known as that pundit and nothing more.

What about marcel desailly he was great when he was at Chelsea and I know he was at the end of his career at utd but Laurent blanc. Was a brilliant defender on his prime.

Rio is so far ahead of vidic or any other cb in his peak it's a joke.

He's up there with the best to play the game.

................

He seriously isn't.

He isn't as good as Hansen was, for starters. Not as good as Bobby Moore, and nowhhere near as good as Pallister.

Not as good as Tony Adams either.

Adams and Keown are the the only pairing to come close to Bruce-Pallister.

Stam
desailly
rio
radebe
vidic
woodgate (when fit)
Hyypia

in no particular order

I like both Paul McGrath and Ledley KIng. They both demonstrated that anticipation and the ability to read the game count for much more than just speed and reflexes.

Major, got to say you had the best centre half pairing of all time with Hansen and Lawrenson... Almost perfect (and I'm including the Italian greats in that comparison). The best pairing we've had was Dolly and Daisy, both vastly underrrated.

I know you are getting on a bit, but it looks like dementia to me.

imo Rio is the best CB of the PL era.

But give me Sol or Adams over Vidic every day of the week.

Adams is a good call for the best in the PL era

I always though Ricardo Carvalho was so underated

TPNM,

That is quite the compliment. They're certainly up there as a partnership with the best. Perhaps playing alongside anyone else Lawro's ability would've stood out more but nonetheless he helped form a great pairing.

Regarding Bruce and Pallister as I said earlier they fitted like a glove. Cantona's signing might've been the driving force but they were the bedrock of your early title winning sides. No weaknesses there.

In terms of the PL era Adams and Pallister would've been a formidable centre half pairing.

Sincerely meant, Major. I f/:@ng hated them at the time, which is perhaps the best compliment of all... Class acts, the pair of them. Phil Neal was awesome as well, what a footballer.

I'd have to say Ronny Johnsen or David May.

Even Colin Hendry

TPNM,

Well, can't say fairer than that.

Those where the days. From Neal as you mention to Hansen and Steve Nicol and a few before that. Like yourselved for a while now, churned out great defenders over and again and Rafael now looks quite the part.

It's no secret, to build great teams you start from the back and we've both been privileged in that respect.

VC and TGM, the article said Premier League era, remember.

Pallister was a beast of a man and unfortunately had to deal with a variety of injuries.

It's still Rio for me, a superb defender who has been consistent for a decade. Superb centre back

Ledley King played just about his entire career with an injury, and was better than any of the above

Ledley King was a poor mans Campbell

No one is mentioning Titus Bramble

Rio was world class.

He is the best defender in utds history and has been for a decade.

By clear distance at 34 he is still out best defender.

Stam was better than vidic.

Not that vidic isn't top class.
