Oh, just because the concept of boxing va other styles came up. It was an interesting debate.
Personally, I think boxing does give the fighter a distinct disadvantage.
The problem being you are never going to see a boxer at the peak of his powers fight someone of a differing style.
Muy Thai fighters would beat most boxers, in my opinion, due to the huge advantages of thee discipline.
The difficulty comes in the skill level of the fighters. You'd have to have a mass boxer vs Muy Thai fighter championship to know which is the more effective discipline.
I've never seen sumo wrestling Forza. The closest I can claim is watching Ganryu in Tekken.
"What? A boxer would get KO'd by somebody who has an equal level of skill in a different style."
I don't know how you came to that conclusion to be honest. And you're underrating a boxer.
Do you know how hard it is to get near a boxer? You're not just going to walk up to him and choke him out. They move and attack the angles.
Very quick and accurate. If one right hand lands it's over.
An expert boxer could never beat an expert muay thai fighter imo. He'd have to resort to using his feet eventually.
Daz tell me how old you are. I'm really curious now. I'm starting to think you're a 70-year-old nonce.
I'm going to take a guess.
27?
Dubbed how long have you been following boxing for? If it's as long as you've been following football...
As for the Bruce Lee vs Tyson argument. Oh please. I love Bruce Lee. I really do. But Tyson would walk him down, and end him.
Too big, too fast, too strong.

I know that. But it's not as if other styles don't have the same principle.

Do you know how hard it is to get near a martial artist? You're not just going to walk up to him and choke him out. They move and attack the angles.
Very quick and accurate. If one right hand lands it's over.
Dubbed makes a good point.
I am a 70 year old nonce.
It may be simplistic, but being limited to only using your fists gives you a huge disadvantage as far as I'm concearned.
That's not to say it isn't better than, or a boxer couldn't, defeat a more complex martial art.
A lot depends on the individual fighter as well. I'd imagine Amir Khan, for example, would get decked by a highly skilled Muy Thai fighter as they'll generally have a higher pain threshold than the glass chinned .
"I know that. But it's not as if other styles don't have the same principle."
Yes. But you're underrating boxers. Sure, they're not used to dealing with kicks. But most fights don't start with that. Especially street fights. It'll depend on the fighter at the end of the day, and his skill.
Tu Meke
That was very Kamranesque. In other words, bad.
I'm only factoring in skill in the particular style tbh. Obviously the will of the fighter is a key thing too.
I see where you're coming from Dubbed, but I'm not realyl referring to street fights. I'm talking about two experts, in the ring, limited to their particular style.
Gimme a break, I'm juggling this thread and playing FIFA.
Yeah. Well a Muay Thai fighter will win when it comes to kickboxing, while a boxer will win in boxing.

I agree with this.
A lot of it comes down to the fighting conditions as well.
As far as the Tyson/Lee debate goes I wouldn't like to call it. Tyson has the obvious size and strength advantage, but Lee has the speed and advantage of his style, in my opinion.
Very cheap dig Dubbed.

Tyson would whup Bruce Lee. Let's be honest.
Have you heard the story about Tyson KO'in Wesley Snipes in the toilet after he caught him with his girlfriend?
It's not as if Bruce Lee is a matchstick or something. I'd back him to take a few Tyson monster punches. Not clean blows, obviously, but maybe bodyshots.
"i think if both fighters could only use moves allowed in their own style then the muay thai fighter would surely have a HUGE advantage?"
I don't get this. Please explain.

Dubbed, but that's the thing.
You say a boxer would lose a kickboxing match, and I'd agree. But if you are not limiting the fighter and are just allowing them to fight in their style it will automatically become a kickboxing match as the other fighter has no limitations.
That's unless the boxer is an incredible fighter, in which case, the skill of the actual fighter as opposed to the style wil be the most important thing - which it probably is anyway.
