Taking into account where we were when he took charge, the fact that English clubs were banned from Europe for a period of time, we didn't actually qualify for the main competition for almost 7 years since he first arrived and of course the 3 foreigner rule, it's more like what 16-17 years really. That's a more accurate figure than your rounded up one of 30 years.

His record of course isn't what it should be though during that time I agree. He's said it himself many times that we should've won it more for a club of our size but the Champions League as you'll know can be down to luck and sometimes you get it, sometimes you don't.

In a league format Chelsea are very far away from United.
