I dream of a transfer budget we don't have to generate.

I see you're falling for the old 20m line.... If you were able to look back for about the last six transfer windows and check what figure the media gives as our transfer budget, I guarentee you will see 20m in more story's than any other figure.

Don't worry, you're not the first gullible one to fall for it, and you won't be the last. But why throw in the 'I hope we don't sell Suarez' line at the end? Completely baseless, not to mention paranoid....

Brendon. Yet again you're ignoring everything that goes against what you say. I imagine its into double figures the amount of times Suarez has stated he has no intention of leaving. Why not try believing it, instead of just making up your own story's?

Brendon. You stated on other articles that we should be 'seeing off' teams such as Southampton. Yesterday was only the second game we've lost to a team in the bottom half of the table. You expect us to beat these teams 4/5 nil every time. That is not only the stuff of delusion, it is extremely arrogant.

It's a professional footballer making comments that they're staying where they are, given historical trends here why on Earth would you believe that?

Hoping he stays, that I can understand, but taking a players word for it on face value these days is just naive. Club loyalty, the likes of which Gerrard has shown is a very rare thing now.

I'm not sure about the budget available in the summer. I would imagine the fair play rules will have a part to play and it's looking like we won't have European football next year so that's an additional drain on resources.

We have fallen short this year and I fear we are going to suffer the consequences, if a big bid comes in for Suarez the owners may find it hard to turn down.

Every player has a price and if the right one comes in for Luis then he'll be sold and replaced like those before him

I think the reality is that Liverpool have overspent on mant average players over the years and that has left them in a financially poor position. So 20m seems a realistic figure. Apart from that, three different managers with three different philosophies have addded their players in the last 3 years. That has left you with an unbalanced and paper thin squad and one not suited to the footballing philosophy of Brendan Rodgers.

There is the problem of over expectation too. Liverpool are traditionally one of Englands top teams and their fans have been spoilt with fantastic teams, players and lots of success over the years, including a couple of years of success with Houllier and Benitez. But again, the reality is that Benitez/Hodgson/Dalgleish transfer policies have been questionable to say the least and that success has not been repeated.

As for Suarez, I believe him when he says he wants to stay. He is a top top player but has penchant for the theatrical makes him stick out in England where in Spain for example, nobody would even notice! However, if Madrid, Bayern or one of the Milans came for him, I think he'd find it hard to turn down.

As for Liverpool, you are what you are at present, a work in progress. You are a top half team with enough quality to push for the top six and beat any team on your day. But you are also a team with a poor defence, a lack of decent wide options and a very light midfield - Allen and Henderson cannot control a game. On the positive side, Coutinho will be a good player!

As I aid, you are a work in progress and the jury is still out on whether Rodgers is good enough to make you a force again. However, you need to stick with him as changing manager and philosophy again would put you a few more years behind,

Hector, Bayern splashed £35m on Javi Martinez last summer. In that light, £50m wouldn't seem that ludicrous for Suarez if they were really intent on getting him. Guardiola's going to inherit a very powerful squad, but he's not one to shy away from splashing the cash if he's taken to a certain player - it's a question of how willing the board is to bow to his requests/whims in view of the players he already has at his disposal.

As for the overall kitty, I don't think it's that unreasonable. If the link below's anything to go by, Rodgers' net spend so far is in the 40m range. A further £20m would bring his net spend to £60m. That's a handsome sum for a team facing a 4th consecutive season out of the CL. Also, I'd imagine there are still a few players in the squad that aren't completely to Rodgers' liking but could fetch a reasonable fee. He'll just have to make the most out of them.

As a question to Liverpool fans, how far away do you think you are from challenging for a CL slot? Of course the title has to be the ultimate title, but better to take things one step at a time methinks.

With Countino and Sturridge for a full season we will definitely put up a strong challenge for 4th.

I hear you KT. To put it differently, what positions do you feel need strengthening more urgently to increase your chances? If it's a question of 2-3 players/positions, then 20m plus a few sales might be more than enough.

Liverpool need a goalkeeper, centre back, left back and right forward to compete for top 4.

posted on 17/3/13

A right forward/winger who scores regularly

And Gerrard isn't getting any younger so a box to box centremid so we can rest or sub him without a significant reduction in quality with a look to the future.

And time. People keep forgetting how young this squad is and just how different the style is.

It'sonlyagame.

We'll be after CBs, one for the starting XI and one reserve as most believe Skrtel will be leaving and Carra is retiring. That said, i hope Kelly's return will cover one CB slot.

Defensive midfielder with a bit of muscle to cover/compete with Lucas.

Probably an attacking player as well although Rogers may well hold back on that and give Borini a chance to make his mark.

Goalkeeper is a possibility but only if Reina leaves.

Well, if it's 3, 4 or more, then he's going to have to be v wise/lucky with his spending, as you very seldom get it right with all of your signings.

For what it's worth, I'd like to see you guys back in the CL mix. Not just for the club itself, which I do, but also 'cos my bum's still sore from '09. Would be good to get another crack in a different sense of the word.

The entire back 5 other than Enrique are proven quality at the highest levels against the best teams on earth. And strangely enough Enrique is the best performing one.

Quality isn't the issue. Confidence seems to have gone and set peices become a problem for some reason.

Personally I wouldn't change the back 5 at all. We need a new set peices coach and/or system though.

Bring back zonal marking

I think it will be largely sell to buy so we'll primarily need upgrade money.

CB - Skrtel will probably go. Carra wages off the bill.
DM - new money
FWD - I would expect Downing to go if we do look for something up top. After the past couple of months we might actually get decent money for him as well! Well, relatively decent.
GK - would only happen if Reina goes, would still command a decent fee.

So, £20m isn't exactly Chelsea/City money but its reasonable. BR will need to spend wisely though, that much is certain.

Skrtel isn't good enough. You won't finish top 4 without a superior centre back.

We are where we should be at present we are the 6th /7th best team in the league this year due to our inconsistency.

We know we can be very good but we can also be poor on our day.

But we are clearly building towards something and in the majority of games we've seen that attacking wise we are very good.

BR was never going to do a complete overhaul of the team and the playing style in one season, he's clearly focused heavily on the attacking side of our game which is evident if you look at his signings.

So next season I'd expect to see him sign defensive players and concentrate heavily on the defense in ore season then hopefully try to get the right balancebetween the two.

Patience lads if we'd won yesterday people would be singing a different tune, a defeat doesn't make us a poor team just like a victory doesn't make us a great one
