TKT - you have more faith in Skrtel than I do. He was superb last season, the rest of his Liverpool career has been pretty average. I'd be happy to see him moved on if we have a decent replacement lined up.

I think top 4 is optomistic for Liverpool - especially those who believe that Sturridge and Coutinho will get you there. You are a long long way behind the squads of Chelsea, Man Utd, Man City, Spurs and Arsenal. I don't think any of the players Rodgers has bought are consistant enough and Gerrard can't go on forever and your defence is in need of an overhaul. You also need a plan B.

We are a long long way behind the squads of Chelsea, Man Utd, Man City. And I doubt we'll compete with any of them again for a decade.

Spurs and Arsenal aren't very good in the context of 'top teams'. They're just second tier and for most of this season we've been in tier 2.5 for a lot of different reasons such as new style, new players, very young players, lack of confidence and lack of depth.

Some of that is simply solved by time, some partially sorted with acquiring Sturridge and Coutinho, some may be down to the manager breeding confidence in the side.

New signings/investment is just one piece. And I don't think it's anywhere near the most important peice since the last xfer window

What is £20M gonna get us???
==============================
Would you prefer £50m of borrowed money that would get us in trouble again?

£20m on top of player sales.
Carroll £10-12m
Skrtel £8-12m
Shelvey £6m
Spearing £1.5m
Ngoo - £2m
Coates - £4.5m
TOTAL - £34m

Add £20m onto that and you get £54m!

You sound really tough Brendon

£50m for Suarez would practically be an insult, especially when £60m for Bale is being bandied around.

"What is £20M gonna get us??"

A lot of hos and a flash pad in the sun. And a ferrari. And a diamond cover for my mobile.

£20M can get a you 3 or 4 quality players...if you're scouting system is v good..

they may not be v well known, big name, established players...

argentina and brazil are the places to buy young players that fit this category

I love optomistic player valuations!

Shelvey for £6m??

we'd get 4 for SHelvey

Only if someone wants to buy him and he wants to go

posted on 18/3/13

of course

but being English, an U21 international, and has a lot of league and Euro experience at his age...4 seems realistic

6 is too high unless he gets a lot of matches over the next couple of months and really shines. And/or has blinders for the U21s

posted on 18/3/13

To be fair I have always liked him, he has an eye for a goal and has a bit of agression in him.

posted on 18/3/13

he's actually regressed

so has Sterling

hopefully both bounce back

posted on 18/3/13

Sterling was never going to keep that level of performance over a full season. He got found out a little by defenders. I see him bouncing back and becoming better with more experience

posted on 18/3/13

a lot of it was confidence with weeRaheem

He looked scared in the big matches and started playing with his back to goal, as the season went on he started doing that more often.

Not sure I'd say he got found out, more he got more fearful that he would get stopped by a defender so he stopped trying to beat them

posted on 18/3/13

But why become fearful, its his job to create chances/take risks. Defenders got wise to him...Same happened with Coleman when he played his first season wide right..

A bit more experience and he is back to his early form. Sure teh same will happen to Sterling.

posted on 18/3/13

"But why become fearful"

he's a kid and it's a lot of pressure

posted on 18/3/13

That is why I made the Coleman comparison, both took a major leap in playing quality (Irish League/Reserves/U21) And both suffered, both also made an international apperance. I did say I feel Sterling will bounce back with the added time and experience he will get. Coleman also saw a benifit of going out on loan as is rumour on Sterling
