Paul who would your summer signings be if you were City? (Realistic)

I'd go for Cavani and a quick winger

I doubt city players or new signings would agree to that, it's not La Liga where it's always Madrid or Barcelona that racks up the trophies.

Yer Ageuros etc can justify high wages.
But there are so many players out there who are basically on money for nothing when not injured, and could do with some proper 'motivation' .

The question comes as to which players in your squad go on the 'remain' and 'change' lists when it comes to new terms.

"I doubt city players or new signings would agree to that"

Then you have to question their motivation.

<Citeh> may have been silly on the wages in the recent past, but it has got them to being a PL top 3 incumbent. Now they are getting down it seems to the business of balancing the books rather than the sheikh being an open wallet.

Paulpower

I've said it time and time again, make winning and losing mean something to these overpaid footballers, if they lose hit them where it hurts.

The city mercenaries would just move to psg if this happens!

The only attraction of city is the money, if they take that away, top players will go elsewhere.

sounds smart to me

And a PL title.
And two (probably soon to be three) consecutive seasons in the CL.

And an Fa cup, this sounds like a good idea to get players like Nasri to put performances in!

You have moved beyond the point of 'buying' the talent needed to get success. Based on this season, this proposed payment regime is probably coming at the perfect time.

something that works for Barca, wont necessarily work at other clubs of the players mentioned in the article , all but one came through the youth system and the other Fabregas started there, is Catalan and would have crawled there on his hands and knees. City have to compete with the other nouveau riche clubs and that is by wages. If a player has a choice of PSG, Chelsea, Anzhi or City, they will go to the club that pays them the most. Good idea in principle but can't see it working at City if they want to attract the likes of Falcao or Neymar.

I think Barcas flat salaries are pretty high anyway, they still have the largest wage bill in the world.

"Good idea in principle but can't see it working at City if they want to attract the likes of Falcao or Neymar."

The premise is that the likes of Falcao (like Aguero, RVP etc) can justify their wages in the main. Tis many of the others on the wage bill who collectively can be a drain will producing very little ROI.

any club that has just renewed Messi's contract is going to have a mega wage bill

"any club that has just renewed Messi's contract is going to have a mega wage bill"

What is Barcas wage bill + revenues ??
I assume at the very least they break even on that front.

only just, Barca, like Madrid are significantly in debt.

"only just, Barca, like Madrid are significantly in debt."

Given their relative successes, I would have expected their wage/revenue ratios to be at least something akin to Man Utd or the G00ns.

Yeah, I've seen some other stuff from this guy in the past (very well researched) .

The question with debt in football, is how much of it is what some call "soft" (debt that the creditors could call in but don't seem to be bothered about) , and whether the club as a "going concern" would continue as - is if all the creditors called in the debts.

For Man Utd, obviously the Glazers cannot.
But they would just be forced to sell up (for so much) and the club as a going concern would not be affected (just new owners) .

Just how much the Barca/Madrid total debts are, is another story.

the advantage Real Madrid and Barca have is that no Spanish bank nor the government (who now own Bankia , previously Caja Madrid , who leant the Kaka and Ronaldo money) would dare bankrupt either club.
