And just to add that's danns, beckford and st ledger out on loan and we've only just got schlupp back from his jollies up at man u. Some may argue all four of these players should be in our starting 11 but in his wisdom he gets rid!!

Team full of kids, massively out of form, desperate need for an experienced head and we send our most experienced player out on loan?

I'm beginning to think Pearson can't manage older players??

I'm still in support of Pearson and glad he's still in charge but if we fail to gain promotion this can be added to a long list of questionable decisions.

Let's hope the ends justify the means.

Hopefully it's so he gets fully Match fit in time for te play offs!!

I'd guess Trish is right and makes perfect sense to get his full fitness back as long as there's a return policy if anyone else gets injured!

Why are our players seemingly only able to gain fitness by playing for other clubs?

I hardly feel a month at Millwall will prime him up for a return to us in a possible play-off.

Well he's not a right back so at least we haven't got to see him there anymore

Donblue,

Because da Laet is fit again, Morgan and keane have a solid partnership so he wouldn't get to play and therefore wouldn't gain fitness.
But at milwall he would play and gain fitness and be ready for us if we need him so a win win for all parties.
Quite simple really

Nothing simple about it Trish.

St Ledger plays at centre-half for his country and provides good back up at right-back, where we have a player of questionable fitness.

I suspect the simple answer is that Pearson has to play Keane to keep Ferguson on side for possible future loans. Other than that, this loan makes no sense.

He does when he is fit, an he will only get fit by playing.
We have a 24hr recall so if we are in need of him we can have him back.
Bit harsh on da laet saying he has questionable fitness, he has missed hardly any games for us this season and always looks fit running up and down that right hand side!

Questionable fitness Prawn??? Who are you referring to? De Laet has played most games this season and been very solid in the main.
Seems to make sense to me sending him out to get up to speed fitness wise, he has been out for some time. 24 hr call back so no problemo !!!

Probably a silly question, but has either Pearson or the club deigned to explain this decision to the fans?

posted on 28/3/13

Wasn't aware of the 24 hour recall. If correct, then that makes more sense.

I'm not knocking De Laet. Just pointing out that he has been out several times with what appears to be a recurring issue.

I'd rather have De Laet at right back Keane in the middle, St Ledger will be moaning that he isn't playing because that's what he does so let him go on loan, he's not good enough anyway. No loss. Danns and Beckford should be playing? Really?

Unable to manage older players? He had no problem with Powell, Berner etc and has no issues with Nugent, Morgan or Konchesky so that theory doesn't really stack up!!

I'm not particularly convinced by this move; St. Ledger is probably 3rd-choice centre back in the team right now and, if Liam Moore continues his loan deal, 2nd-choice right back. That makes him the best option for defensive cover on the bench and we'd be losing that.

It's also right what prawns says: While De Laet hasn't had a serious injury in this campaign, he has gone off injured mid-match on several occasions (including times when he had a suspected heart attack and suspected broken leg. Go figure.)

There is a kind of logic in St. Ledger keeping match fitness by going out on loan to another Championship club - particularly one that's now out of the playoff picture - as long as there is a 24-hour recall on the loan. However, it also flies in the face of Pearson stating that solidarity amongst the squad is important.

Whatever's happened, it seems to have taken place as a quick thing in the last day or so. The exact circumstances behind it will remain a mystery, but it's the kind of decision that may prove insignificant yet may equally come back and bite Pearson in the bum.

Also - maybe some would argue that Danns and Beckford should be in the team. I would vehemently disagree with them!

Maybe Ireland had some influence, interesting it happens around the Internation break!

posted on 28/3/13

The only way I can see Ireland having an influence is if it was suggested to him that he needs to be playing first team football at club level to get into the squad and he's been concerned about that. It's not the first time he's questioned whether he'd get first team football here, and I can't criticise him for that when playing for your country is at stake.

Dung, I'd probably agree on beckford but surely anyone with any sort of knowledge would agree that danns is a better player than king? Ok his gave might not fit with the current manager and yes he may have an attitude but purely from a footballing point of imo he should be in or team

Trish - "Morgan and keane have a solid partnership". Settled partnership perhaps, but I would not call the second goal Derby scored as being the result of anything but atrocious defending - it looked bad at the ground, even worse on the TV replay.

Shilly - you have to be kidding. Danns is a different player to King to be sure, but better? Don't think so. King is being asked to perform a much more defensive role than previous which has had an obvious impact on his scoring.

PS to the original question, probably not. With SSL fit he'd want to play, possibly starting to threaten to throw his toys out of the pram again? So he gets some games at Millwall to get match fit if needed (assuming 24 hour recall) and a potential disruptive element is removed from the squad at a critical period of the season? With Whitbread fit we have cover. Perhaps I'm being a bit unfair, perhaps not.

posted on 29/3/13

Shilly - most people who know anything about the game would know that King is more intelligent and technically better than Danns could ever wish to be. He also reads the game very well.

You do know running around a lot doesn't make you a good player?

As for SSL - he's ok. I am a little surprised by this decision as I'd rather have him as back up than Whitbread but I'm never devastated when an average player (like Danns) goes out on loan. Gets match fitness and we get him back if needed.

Can't help but feel he'll be gone in the summer though. He wants first team football, and I do t personally think he's quite good enough to get it in a team with promotion aspirations.

posted on 29/3/13

I obviously also have no sort of knowledge of the game either, I don't particularly rate Danns while I find King to be far more cultured. Running around a lot and either fouling people or constantly getting caught out of position does not make a top footballer.

Andy king has proved me wrong on a number of occasions coming back to his old self.
As for SSL write him off at your peril you football know it all's.
What happens after the end of the season when our loan players go home to their clubs?

Although like Danns beckford and the others this will be about reducing our wag bill as much of getting rid of the bad apples and that might include SSL to.
