We don't need him to be honest.
Henderson will be vital to us next season and we will see a different Allen once fully fit.
What we do need is that enforcer type player...wanyama type
its a no brainer. Alonso plays for R.Madrid and is a first choice for the number 1 international team. We have potential with the young 'uns but they may never reach the standards if Alonso

Alonso would walk into the team. A truly great player.
Yes, he is a worldclass player, starts for one of the best teams in the world and the best international team, would take him
From what I've seen regarding the deal to bring Alonso back is this, £8.5m transfer fee and £80k a week. Alonso is only 31 and the position in which plays doesn't require great pace and Alonso could play till he's 35 at the standed he has always played at.
He's essentially just a better version of Lucas isn't he?
Yes he is a better version of Lucas, a much better version and that type of player would be invaluble. Xabi has gone on to play at a higher level since leaving and if we get another 3-4 years out of him then I'd be made up!

Think about it.......a world class player whos a starter for probably the best national team in the world, errrrrr.....OF FKN COURSE WE SHOULD HAVE HIM!!!
Sort yourselves out...
how you would not want a player who is world class and huge potential to get you a top 4 finish is beyond me.
certainly help to keep our key players by showing intent.
doubt it will happen sadly, but not wanting him? shocking.
not shocking but i just don' think he's the type of player we need
Just a small point of contention but he was never a Lucas type player, that was Masch. He'd be taking the position of Gerrard's deep lying role.
I think he would add a lot to our team.
His passing and vision are excellent, as are his positioning and he is an underrated tackler too. I don't see these attributes particularly waning in the next 3 or 4 years as I am sure he looks after himself.
He would also add experience that we are lacking. We have one of the youngest teams in the league, so another old head wouldn't hurt. He also knows and has feeling for the club, meaning he will fight for it.
Options are what win CL places and trophies.
Imagine if we could pick three midfielders from Alonso, Gerrard, Lucas, Allen, Henderson, Suso, Shelvey and a n other strong holding player. That is a lot of depth to our midfield, allowing rotation without reducing performance level. I don't think 8 players for three positions is too many. It would allow us to play strong midfield's in both domestic cups and give us cover for injuries in the most demanding position on the pitch.
I doubt its happening, but would certainly welcome it if it did.
Yes. Alonso is world class and would be in our strongest 11. He may be 31 but he'll go for at least 4 more seasons due to the style of player he is. Lets not forget Gary Mc was 34ish when we signed him and he didn't do too bad! If his wages are within our means, he would be a great signing.

Absolutely would, no hesitation. We've cried out for someone to control games and keep sensible possession at times this year. We have no one that can dictate a game the way Alonso can, he's still doing it now for Madrid. Look at Utd's tactics against them, put a player on Alonso to disrupt their rhythm. Not only is it quite a compliment given his teammates but it also came damn close to working!
Getting Alonso back would be an incredible signing for us. For me the last 3 years he has been in the top 5 midfielders in the world, he is a brilliant player.
Another thing about him is that even though he has 31 he still has another 5-6 years at the top of his game. He has never been blessed with pace, so it's not as if his game will be affected by aging. After Xavi he is the best passer in the world for me- exactly the same type of player as Pirlo and he's still one of the best in the world and he is 34.
His love for the club and confusion over his contract at Real makes me believe this move could happen. Everybody knows that if he would leave Real we are his preferred choice, as long as we can show him we are moving forward as a club.
Sign him up sign him up.
Can't believe this is even up for discussion. We definitely need him in the team, he's world class.
We were outmanoeuvred by Villa for good parts of the match just like we were against Southampton. It's happened quite a few times this season where as when Alonso Masch and Gerrard played together we bossed most games in midfield.
Alonso now is still better than most players we have and will continue to be for another 3 years at least. It's a complete no brainer if we have the chance to sign him.
Let's use that money for Eriksen and for the future. It's like putting on a bandage when you have to amputate a whole limb. Some people seem to remember only his last season for Liverpool, when actually he wasn't that amazing for long periods of time. Tired in this club of always looking back, the fact is his best years are behind him, same goes for Gerrard, and we need players for the long term, that's the key getting back on top.
He had 2 good seasons in 5.
Just sayin'
Ericksen is not coming to Anfield.
Truetored - sometimes you buy for the future and for potential and sometimes you buy for the here and now. Alonso is the here and now, one of the top midfielders in the game and capable of a good 4-5 years at that level.
Yeah Eriksen looks a great prospect but there has to be balance and stability to a side. I'm not looking back, I'm looking forward and for the next 5 years Alonso would improve the team.
We know ericksen isnt coming agger, eriksen is coming instead
Tags - he had 2 superb seasons out of 5, plus a couple of decent ones. Unless age is affecting me I only remember 1 season when he wasn't really up to scratch.
