Lacking in wide areas

I was gonna create a similar article about our wing play. We seriously lack creativity on the left hand side in particular. I mean Bale is one of the most effective left sided players in Europe and when it works out then it's great we are using him in that free role. But I have said this many times. I would much rather him start on his most effective position, ie the left side, then gradually have that drifting role as the game progresses, then occasionally going back to the left. Siggy is not a winger. Holtby is not a winger. Playing Bale in a free role or attacking role behind the striker means we have someone like Benny running down that left to create something. I like the guy but Benny ain't a winger!

Fingers crossed Bale does return in a few weeks but I ain't holding my breath. Same with Lennon.

It's also a damn shame we have 3 wing players out on loan - Rose, Townsend and Falque

Obviously it's the evolving nature of the game that players are expected to be able to play in a variety of positions but I'm of the old school in that I prefer to see a player in their best position where they can make the most impact.
Also interesting is the fact that AVB will not play any of the mentioned players in the centre of midfield. In the games that have mattered I think he has stuck with either Dembele, Sandro or Parker for the majority of the season.

The wing play I am not the least concerned but, the defence is that needs addressing, and very, very quickly.

Sandy - I think our centre backs will be OK for next season. Hopefully Kaboul will be back. Gallas I have backed all season but he will surely be gone in the Summer. I don't think Naughton is anywhere near good enough - last night showed how much we miss Walker. As for left back I really feel BAE has lost interest in the club and for me should be sold at maybe a tidy 7 mill profit in the summer?

Judgeholden, im old school as well when it comes to playing the player where they can make the most impact. If one the world's best, ie Cristiano Ronaldo, can play on the left then why shouldnt someone like Bale (who plays a similar style of game) start in his most effective position.

I agree with 'Ooo La La', Bale should start on the left and then drift in & out. Loaning Townsend seemed at the time, and is proving to be, one of the most stupid loan deals ever. We only had 2 wingers left as it was, then with one inevitably getting injured at some point, and now we have 2 out, our best winger is now playing week in, week out, for another club and we have none - absolute madness.

Holtby was trying hard but he's like a fish out of water down the flank and didnt really pose any threat at all.

Sigi has a good football brain but thats rarely going to give you the space you need to deliver the types of crosses we need on a regular basis and whilst Dempsey can drift in from the wing, he is not a winger that suits our counter attacking play.

I just dont understand why AVB plays a weakened defence guard (defenders and GK) in the EL but then plays players like Bale & Lennon in every game they are fit.

Now we're without Lennon & Bale i am extremely concerned for our remaining fixtures - and any hope of a Top 4 finish.

Chicken Loaning Townsend, plus Rose and Falque, was a major backfire on us. It was even worse when we started playing Bale in a free, attacking role.

This is just typical Spurs. We seem to get carried away and then find ourselves in a right pickle towards the end. Anyway, we just have to keep our fingers crossed and hope for a quick Bale and Lennon recovery, otherwise we can kiss goodybye not only to top 4 but also the Europa

The thing I hate about the Townsend deal we are paying 60% of his wages. How's is this a good deal for us?

Sherwood and levy need to have a good sit down in the summer about leaving us too short of players. Very poor decision making.

It's such a shame we cannot recall players like Townsend and Rose. I mean recalling the pair would have brought some salvation to our current issues.

All the stats are there.
If the PL breakdown is in the final third of the season, then loans of certain players in Jan that do not allow for reasonable recall cannot be sanctioned.

So Rose to Sunderland was ok, as that was made at the beginning of the season. But Townsend to QPR would not be permitted.

Another option there Chicken The reason I mentioned mine was that Naughton IMO was shakey in the first half.

But we did make a meal of it yesterday

Ooo La La

This is irrespective of his performance, but how unlucky was he not to score?

Two great efforts on goal.

Those were sweet strikes! I thought he deserved a goal for hitting the ball so cleanly

Ooo La La

That first one was so unlucky because, not only was it going in, but on another day the defender could have deflected it further away from the keeper and into the corner - instead of wide.

Chicken that's our luck eh mate! 2 fantastic strikes that don't go in, a practically open goal missed, then our star man flucks his right ankle up in the last minute of the game
