Morning - got any suggestions for the most famous names in sport Torres ?

Hombre, I wrote my article fairly quickly and probably would have included some more, well known examples, given more time but I didn;t and leave it up to you fine JA posters to suggest some of your own

I recognize Geoffrey Boycott but would say Ian Botham is more of a memorable name.

My famous names names list would be Steve Davies, Daly Thompson, Pele, Babe Ruth, Muhammed Ali, John McEnroe, Michael Jordan among others

Also Michael Schumacher and other F1 drivers.

Good suggestions Ardiles. It is subjective, of course, depending on your age and type or sports you follow. No two people will ever agree.

Surprised no basketball teams have been mentioned. LA Lakers or Boston Celtics or Chicago Bulls?? Outside of America these teams plus NY Yankees must be massiely familiar names, but only as references in American TV and film. Any more detailed info such as past players or even the sport might have people guessing.

Biggest person must be David Beckham. Huge in Europe, US, Far East and probably South America too due to their football following.

Muhammad Ali, Pele, Real Madrid, Manchester United (unfortunately for both these sides) are probably all better known than the New York Yankees. I don't think US sport is of any interest to anyone but fat red neck morons in baseball caps.

Because it is still association football.

Given the fact football, the version we invented is a truly international game and cricket is so huge in the Indian sub-continent (the most populated area on earth), I doubt very much a sports team that play an almost exclusively north American game are the most famous on earth.

Perhaps they do sell the most team related products? That makes sense, it's just like the yanks to believe sales and money are the be all and end all.

david beckham is the most well known name in sport or usain bolt

I like most of the world do not give a fig about American football or baseball, I don`t even know the rules of either, and have no wish to learn, so another stupid poll, that was probably taken from 90 per cent Yanks.

If I had to guess all day I would not of come up with that.

IMO... the most famous name / brand in world sport has to be Mohammed Ali

I'm waiting to hear the radio programme on Wednesday, but my feeling is that it is one man's opinion and the trailer should have been worded more appropriately, i;e; "possibly or allegedly" the most famous name in sport.

posted on 8/4/13

Kitty, I think you will be disappointed. I think the programme is just about the Yankees history and not a look into which team/sportsperson is the most famous in the world.
