Yes Scotcelt and it was the biggest mistake ever in the SPL all the clubs including Rangers were spending based on that cash, hence the trouble afterwards and cuts. Utter job and can't believe it hardly gets brought up, especially when all the other clubs outwith the OF blame us for the downfall in the Scottish league.

When were we getting 15 mill soley from the SPL. Are you sure your not working in what Rangers were making from being the only club that made the CL for years prior to MON?

It would be the same in England if the SKy money stopped overnight as it did for us.

Everyone down there is spending (borrowing) based on the SKY money

SPl winners were getting that Scotcelt and that was about 13 years ago.

Maybe 15 years ago. I was at uni at the time.

Not saying your wrong off hand mate but at a guess I think those type of figures would have to be inclusive of CL money

You must be pig sick of the never ending story

2nd place got about £12 million so Celtic were getting that. The CL money would've been the difference and it wasn't as much as now for the group stages.

The money went down slowly, that's why the likes of caniggia and Novo were at Dundee.

NOT inclusive that's my whole point. How old are you Scotcelt? We were getting not far of England. It was seen as a lot less at the time.

Castle there is clubs in England that could not repay their debt even if SKY gave a full 5 years contract term notice.

I was alive and clearly remember it. I'm sure you can find them online.

Yep to the English debt and that's what put all our clubs up sheiyte creek. It's why we cut massively after that as did Celtic.

Even the bottom club in the SPL was getting about £1-2 million per year from SKY. 3rd place was getting about £6-7million, which is what the other clubs were moaning at.

As I said biggest mistake in our history. I can't imagine the money we would be getting now, but we would have one of the best leagues in Europe right now if that had carried on.

Still makes me mad to this day.

Television

A cameraman pitchside at Tynecastle Stadium
Between 1998–99 and 2001–02, exclusive television rights for live Scottish Premier League matches were held by Sky Sports. In January 2002 the SPL rejected a £45m offer from Sky Sports and began considering setting up its own pay-per-view channel, dubbed "SPL TV".[57]

45 over how long?
Nae bother mate but am still sceptical( unusual for me I know ) though . Getting on here so going to call it quits . Have a good one mate

It was only Rangers and Celtic who voted against SPL TV because they would get more cash from the SKY deal. SPL TV money would have been more evenly spread between the teams.
Without the OF votes, the plans never got off the ground.

SPL TV deal was better for the smaller clubs. Guess that's why they wanted it.
Don't think anyone reckoned on the OF having a hissy-fit and scuppering the whole idea, though.

posted on 19/4/13

yeah as SPL tv would have woked.

It would have a slight chance now, as there is little money. There's no way it would have then. As ever you lot took the stupid option like the last setanta deal.
