EPL not a strong league?

I think as a whole the majority of United fans already agree with this, well I certainly do, and have made the same kind of Article as this one in the past.

You tend to hear nonsense about the PL being rubbish from the Arsenal board, or Chelsea board

You’re so right OP. EPL has been dominating CL for the last 8 years or so. To say the EPL is losing it just because no EPL made it in the ¼ finals this season is laughable.

Anyway another EPL team is on course of winning yet another European trophy...yeah EPL has really lost it

No one said it as rubbish, what i find annoying is seeing comments like "player x is unproven in the premier league, so we can't say he is that great.

PL may be the best league in the world, but not some sort of super league that you need to be proven in to be considered world class.

Can someone please tell me what makes it "the best league in the world"? Surely this is subjective

This myth that Messi won't do as good in the PL (some even say he would struggle ) winds me up.

He would have a field day against some of these jokes of defenses.

If Ronnie Boy can dominate the premier league then Messi will do even better, he is that good

Very, very few people actually ever say this. At least they haven't done for a good few years.

What you may hear is "between our 2 transfer targets, player x is proven in the PL and player y is not, therefore we should go for player x". Which is totally understandable.

Whatever had happened in the past 8 years I would say the EPL is at its weakest for some time.

We have no team that can match the football of Bayern right now and we need to step a notch.

I think saying someone is unproven in the PL is a valid point and it refers to the different style of fotball not that the quality is better.

Nor does anyone really. But I bet any of our top 4 would've put up a better fight than Spain's finest did.

“We have no team that can match the football of Bayern right now”

Well is there any team in the world right now that can match Bayern?

In my opinion the EPL is currently the strongest league in the world because Liverpool won the CL in 2005.

Clearly the most competitive, United have just won what their 5th title in 6 years?

posted on 2/5/13

In the el Liga, bundesliga and Series A there is a team like 10 points clear at the top. Do you honestly think this would ever happen in the PL, not a chance. Far too competitive and anyone can win it.

7 years is it not?

Ryan............i take your last post as sarcasm right?

And all this violence you see in European grounds, wouldn't happen in England.

Regardless of which league is the strongest, EPL is definitely the most entertaining out of all

In my opinion The Championship is the best and most competitive league in the world. No team has won the Championship 2 seasons in a row in the last 8 years. Quite unbelievable. That is how competitive it is.

The PL is clearly still a strong league. I do think the quality of football has dipped, though, especially at the top teams.

Whether it's the best is subjective and a pretty difficult question to answer conclusively as it's difficult to watch enough football all across Europe to know.

What we have seen in Europe over the last couple of seasons is that the European sides are improving and the prem sides are no longer as good making it more of a level playing field and more competive in the competition - and Chelsea's fortuitous CL win hasn't done anything to change that.

The fact Chelsea are in the Europa final is also irrelevant as they're a team that aspires to win the CL and make the latter stages rather than go out the group and make the final of the lesser competition.

We need to improve, and I think we will, but I cannot see the dominance of the latter stages that we have seen in the past.

The European sides have caught up.

We're not far off at all tbh. Most United fans will claim that we're only 2 or so players away from mounting a serious challenge for European dominance again. If City get a better manager they'll be up there. And Chelsea will be a force if they get Mourinho back.

There's been a massive overreaction regarding the apparent weakness of the PL.

Blood, for me it's not as simple as two players and we can dominate Europe. I feel the standard of football in Europe has improved far too much for us to be able to dominate like we did (3 CL finals losing out to the great Barca being a sign of dominance, in my opinion).

Our side was quality back then but we also had the luxury of being far better than most in Europe. I don't think that side would have the same luxury were it playing now (even though it could certainly win this cometition).

Football works in cycles and that cycle was great, but will be very difficult to replicate.

Maybe dominance is the wrong word. But certainly being up there. At the moment, against any of the 4 semi finalists we'd have been underdogs.

The PL has the most 'good' teams for sure. I would argue that the lower PL teams would get thrashed by their Spanish counterparts. Plus Spain and Germany have THE best teams.

Overall I'd give the PL the crown, even with its current dip.

Agreed. I do think the next few years in the CL are going to be really competitive as so many teams are improving. The Italian sides are getting better also and if they're managed correctly will have a say in who contests the latter stages.

It could be the first time for a very long while that European football as been on such a level playing field.

You've then got the billionaire clubs in Eastern Europe as well as PSG and Monaco.

Going to be interesting to see how it all pans out. I do fear for the Spanish sides outside the top 2, though. They just don't have the money to build a side competitive enough to win it- although Malaga gave a great account of themselves, so there's hope for them reaching a quarter or semi at best.
