Gareth Bale

He's no flash in the pan that's for sure.

Unless he gets a serious injury he'll be at the top of the game (just beneath Ronaldo and Messi for me) for many years to come.

Just seems rather unlikely that we can get him.

Bale right now is every bit as good as Ronaldo was in 06/07 IMO. Of course after that, Ronaldo progressed at an insane rate. But I wouldn't bet against Bale doing the same. People may laugh at that, but they are incredibly similar players with very similar attributes.

But imagine if we did Bale

I think Levy would turn down just about any offer from an English club though.

posted on 6/5/13

Oh, there's no way we're getting him. Marvellous player nonetheless.

I don't think it's that unlikely.

I'd say Real are favourites but that's even if Bale wants to go to Spain. Plus that's even if they want him. Maybe they'll take a chance on Neymar.

I can't see him going to Barca or elsewhere in Europe so that leaves the English clubs.

With FFP I reckon we'll be best placed to buy players in the PL and we have his childhood hero Giggs here and he also wears the same number shirt as Bale. A handover perhaps?

If Spurs don't get into the CL i'm certain Bale will be off and Spurs will use his transfer fee to buy a cheaper winger and strengthen their midfield while the manager said himself that Bale was the one that got away.

Despite what people believed, Bale didn't turn us down so perhaps he himself wishes Saints had listened to Uniteds offer.

This could well be happening this summer. At the very least it's not as impossible as it would seem.

Bloodred

You're wrong. There's no way a British player could be as good as someone from outside this country.

Haven't you heard? British footballers are just a bunch of talentless cloggers

It's going to take a Gargantuan offer for them to sell to us. Absolutely silly money. Probably not a lot short of "Ronaldo money". And it seems unlikely we'll take them up on that.

I keep trying to convince myself it could happen and then change my mind again.

Don't see it myself.

Be GUTTED if the Sheik buys him for the bitters though. REALLY GUTTED !!!

Doubt it. Credit to Spurs, they were the ones who converted Bale from a good LB prospect to one of the best forwards on the planet. Who knows if we'd have done the same.

Ronaldo: Birthday is mid-season in February
Age 21: Scores 12
Age 22: Scores 23
Age 23: Scores 42

Bale: Birthday start of the new season, end of July
Age 21: Scores 11
Age 22: Scores 12
Age 23: Scores 25

Ronaldo performed better than Bale during the same age and his progression was much faster. The argument will be, Ronaldo played at a better team.

Not trying to say who is better etc, as Ronaldo is heads and shoulders above Bale [only a true idiot will say otherwise], however it is quite clear that Bale needs to move to a top club for his game to reach a new height.

I don't think he'd ever reach Ronaldo's level, ever. However, I'd be happy to be proved wrong.

I actually think Bale can be a genuine contender for Ballon di'or next season if he takes Spurs far in the CL.

------------------------------------------

I think that's taking things a bit far as good a player I think Bale is and will be next season.

Unless Bale actually wins the Champions League next season which if he moves he could well do, but if he stays at Spurs he won't, then I don't think Bale will have a case for the FIFA Ballon d'or because it always seems with these awards that what you win during the year either with your club or International team is a big factor in deciding the top 3 etc.

Agreed.

Bale can't achieve much more staying at Spurs. He needs to move on but the Spurs fans are having a paddy if you dare suggest it to them reasonably.

As much as I'd love to see Bale at the club, I have trouble believing it's possible just because of the price that Spurs will demand for him, a price that I don't believe we'll be willing to pay but I guess we'll see.

We should make all our players take a £10,000 per week pay cut to fund the deal.

United - we don't want to deal with you and can you/ would you pay a ridiculous fee?

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Didn't realise you were on the Spurs board? How on earth do you know you don't want to deal with us?

Levy sold Carrick and Berbatov to us. Bale would be no different at the right price. Every man has his price.

You may be closer to the mark with us willing to pay it though. We've shown we don't need him to win the PL.

I propose that Spurs keep him and we loan him for CL nights. We'll pay you handsomely.

We'll need to make them take a £40,000 per week pay-cut for us to raise £50million.

Sorry, I couldn't resist doing the Maths

Darkphoenix is looking at this in the ebst way. Don't judge the players season to season, judge them on their actual age.

They're both are (or were) so young that 6-7 months can make all the difference in football.

The obsession with Ronaldo and Bale on this board is grating.

posted on 6/5/13

I think people laugh when they mention bale and Ronaldo in the same sentence because in recent years, we're not used to having someone British outside of England who is deemed world class.
Also, Tottenham have only come about in the last 3 years or so, so it's hard to digest that someone who is world class would come from a club who wasn't predominantly big a few years back
Looking at those stats, it is remarkable how similar his stats are. I'd rather he stay in the prem and grace us with his presence and be a role model to children (fairly sound off the pitch) other than go to Madrid/Barca and bang in 60 a season

Or from England.

Interesting article. Although theres certainly something distinctly different about Ronaldo and Messi than any other players.

Their consistency is immense. Their fitness is also sublime and they had a team built around their play to get the best out of them. I'm not sure Bale would ever get to their sort of stats, however I can see him hitting 30 - 40 goals if he say went to United.

Bale would cost more than Ronaldo.

23 years old, double player of the year, 3 awards this season alone, 25 goals, improving year on year. £60 million minimum. He is real bound.

But hopefully hell have a couple of decent but not amazing seasons and we pick him up for £20 mil in a couple of years. One club where that would happen is real.

for the article.

I'm not here to wum, just honest football chat from a spurs perspective. It's hard to judge how good bale can become in the next 3/4 years because as much as it pains me to say it, he's not playing for a dominant team, a team who go out to every game with the expectation of winning and go out to do so, someone like a man united, barca, bayern Munich or those @r5eholes from Madrid for example.

I think trying to compare anyone's potential level to messi or ronaldo is unfair as they are 2 freakishly good players with quality players surrounding them who's gameplan is more or less to get the ball to their star man. If you take those 2 out of it I honestly believe he can be one of the best in the world by 2016/17 if he carries on improving at this rate (although the ironic thing is that his actual performances haven't been fantastic since jan, just scored loads of great goals). Would also expect the likes of Lucas moura and Eden hazard to be up there with him as they both have some serious potential.....

From a selfish point of view I hope bale either begins to stagnate at spurs or the prospect of playing with bale lures other top players to spurs and they reach greatness together!!!
