I don't think Rooney would come to you for a few reasons. First and foremost, the BBC article about him has absolutely no quotes from him suggesting he wants to leave. Secondly, I can't see Rooney taking a 'step down' unless it is for more money. Last time he wanted assurances that United would continue to challenge, and strengthen. That can't be said about Spurs.
Though at the end of the day, money talks.
Been much criticised as a no. 10 for United recently (still plenty of goals and assists though) but as a number 9 he is a quality player. He is still a great finisher.
Think his wages would be too much for you though... he would also destroy your transfer record. Can't see it myself even assuming he is on the move.
I'll get for this, but I really don't rate him that highly. Particularly this season. Not only have the goals dried up (to an extent) but I think his passing and link up play has been woeful at times. I think the player most suited to our style of play is Lukaku. He looks the real deal and so young. Will never happen / Fulham B will never sell him to us, but I'd rather him than Rooney.
yes Lukaku but Chelsea wont sell him to us. Rooney needs a change that change might just bring out the best in him.
Not only have the goals dried up (to an extent)

This isn't really true. For the most part, when he's played he's been worth a goal or an assist, which given his supposedly poor form, is pretty good. Rooney would likely set you back at least the 30m we paid for him too, aswell as anywhere over £150k a week in wages.
Lukaku has looked quality, but Chelsea will never sell him to you.
Rooney always has purple patches, then does nothing of note for weeks on end
Hombre he sounds ideal for us then lol. But Levy has to buy big this summer to compensate VDV and Modric leaving which he hasn't done so far.
TBH the weeks on end where he isn't doing anything usually involve him playing somewhere other than striker or actually being injured!
Or playing for England but that doesn't really matter for club sides....
I remember the famous 6 months without a goal in open play...
Failing to take into account an injury at the end of the season, the world cup for England (which doesn't matter if a club wants to buy him) and then his summer holidays!
Apparently the guy was rubbish for not scoring loads of goals on his summer holidays and when he was injured.
That is true Morse, you haven't had a marquee signing for some time. Rooney and x amount of cash for Bale on the cards?
yeah rooney is gonna reduce his £200,000 plus a week wage at utd to take £70,000 at spurs...as well as leave a title winning side to challenge for 4th
will never happen
Beat me to it Morse! Rooney has always said WHL is one of his favourite grounds to play at. Massively unlikely, actually completely unlikely to happen though!
I was waiting for an article like this!
While I don't think he's finished as some people say, I don't believe he's quite the player he was. As a 'number 10', he no longer seems to influence games as much as someone like mata or ozil do, and if we played him as an out-and-out striker he'd probably get frustrated as he's done with England in the past in that because we don't dominate possession all the time he'd be less involved, and the less involved he is the deeper he drops in search of the ball.
Unless we were talking max £25m and 100k a week then no not for me. Would rather spend that sort of cash on jovetic
Another part to the Rooney saga is, where would he go? He doesn't strike me as the type to thrive outside of England, though PSG are almost constantly linked with him. He wont get a game for Barca, could possibly play for Madrid. It mostly leaves English clubs, but of those English clubs only Chelsea and City can realistically offer him a "side step" rather than a step down.
Aswell as him being anywhere between 25m-45m depending on who you're talking to, and his 150-250k wages, again depending on where you're looking. It is hard to see him getting somewhere better than United.
I think Rooney is class! He may not be on the scoresheet as much, but if you watch him play, he often plays from deep and his influence is still just as strong from there. I would take Rooney in a shot. But there is no chance of Rooney coming to us, due to several reasons:
1) Man U will ask for no less than £40m for him
2) His wages
3) He will have top clubs in Spain, France, Italy and Germany asking for his signature, who are also likely to pay his high wages
4) Levy is bald and does not believe in hair transplants

I could see him playing for Bayern but they really don't need him. They've got quality players coming out of their ears. This was their bench against Barca:
22 Tom Starke
04 Dante
13 Rafinha
11 Shaqiri
30 Dias
44 Tymoschuk
33 Gomez
Mental......
I think the transfers are going to be very interesting this year. Once one goes through somewhere it'll kickstart a whole bunch of others.
I think Barca should take Aguero. City will take Rooney, would United then strengthen with Falcao? If they did who would Chelsea go for?
Arsenal are obviously not famous for ever really spending that big, but supposedly have a big warchest plus this new kit deal to finance themselves? Spurs are obviously going to attempt to strengthen to but if we miss CL that could be tougher.
Despite their lower league position these days Liverpool still have a draw about them, but are they going to be able to hold onto Suarez?
City are also going to have a clear out. Rumoured to be selling around 9 players! Can other teams take advantage of this?

Bayern have a mental squad, the area I can see them wanting to strengthen is the striker though. Gomes, Madzukic and Pizzaro whilst good finishers don't feel like amazing all round strikers to me...

Gomez was building himself something of a reputation but doesn't even seem to be first choice anymore...
Would fancy Rooney over those 3 myself.
Don't think Rooney will leave for City unless money is main objective. I honestly think Rooney will end up in Spain or France (Coleen will have some say in this).
Of the 3 I'd say mandzukic is the best all-rounder. He's got the work ethic and can finish whereas Gomez is just a poacher and Pizarro is a backup player for cup games I suspect. We can only speculate about how Rooney might feel about playing abroad, maybe that theory was partly due to not wanting to take coleen's late sister away from the local area?
Someone on here said they'd rather have Lukaku than Rooney?
Interesting article.
I know a lot of Spurs fans, and we've said for a while that you need that extra quality up top.
Rooney would be a great signing, but I don't see what he'd gain from joining Spurs. He's at that stage of his career where he probably wants to kick on and, with respect, he'd need to have different reasons for joining Spurs.
But if he was to leave United, I'd like to see him at Spurs - I think he'd be great.
The Rooneys of this world implicitly price themselves out of the reach of the likes of Spurs.
