As the years roll by sport gets more competitive. Olympic records for example. Truth is its tougher today and Spurs today would beat Spurs of 1961 hands down. Stronger , fitter, faster

I would not necessarily agree with that read a Jimmy Greaves book called "The Heart of the Game" maybe you might disagree then
So what you're saying is that you have to manage a crap side and do well to be considered a quality manager?
You make it sound like winning a title is a walk in the park. Ask yourself this: why did he get all those top jobs?
Why have managers like Allardyce, Rednkapp and Curbishly not got top jobs despite doing well with crap teams?
"Give me the barca side of a couple of years ago and I would win 13 trophies "

Fergie mentioned recently in an interview how nostalgia plays a massive part in people's perceptions of football.
This was a brilliant point and something Grand is exhibiting in it's entirety.
Put Bale and Hazard on the transfer market for the same price i know who will go first
So what you're saying is that you have to manage a crap side and do well to be considered a quality manager?
-------------------------------------------------------------------
No you have to turn a side like Aberdeen into a top side and then go to another run down side and transform them completely to be a major force for years to be a great manager.
Taking over a side like Milan or Barca and winning things is hardly anything to boast about IMO
Read Greavsies books and seen him on stage. Melancholy is wonderful thing and no one wants to argue with it or him. But realistically the truth is different. Which is why I brought up olympic records. Those timings are definitive. It's a scientic way to compare different eras. Unfortunately we cannot prove it with team sports

If spending then winning is so easy, why did Ranieri, Hughes, Kenny and AVB fail in that regard?

and he is right but that does not distract from the fact that the likes of Greaves Charlton Law etc would have been great footballers no matter what era they played in
So basically unless you are Sir Alex you cannot be a class manager.
Why, you really do have high standards.
Taking over a top club and winning trophies is something to boast about when you've won lots of trophies.
If it was so easy to take over a top club and win trophies then no manager would ever fail at a top club.
I really can't tell if he's just wumming me now.
I haven't disputed they would. But you seem to be living in the 60's and acting like it was all much better and harder back then. Which is clearly bollöcks.

Were you around in the 60's then ?
I was a kid and as much as I loved going to matches we were treated like cattle. Standard of play ie ball skills were poor save for a few exceptions. Games were high scoring. On the day of my birth Jimmy Greaves scored 3 goals and in a 6 3 win for Chelsea v Man City. Whilst I obviously didn't see it Greaves later said every time he scored one our defence would let one in. It was carp defending is what he meant. He also scored all 5 I think in a 5 4 win. Incredible goalscorer but what defences were they up against. Today's are athletes. I can remember some real fat footballers when I was growing up

I was 4 when the 60's started and yes there were some tubby players around but it was a different game then altogether.
The reason there are more skills on show now is because back then somebody would have taken your leg off and got away with it.
There were still 100's of players with every bit as much ability as the modern day footballer IMO
Spurs fans. Delusions of the highest order.
Ok time for sleep. Work in morning. Nite lads
