Anyone else feel the Shawshank Redemptiopn (while being a very good movie) is a bit overrated? I feel I may be in the minority but I don't think I'd even put it in my top 20.

^ Yep, just as I said on page 2. Such a lazy favourite film. Decent to good but no more, how it constantly makes peoples top films of all time lists is beyond me.

^ Completley agree, it's a very good film and all but just don't see how it coudl be considered the greatest movie of all time!!!

BP5 was a sequel too far

I really thought they were going to expand on the concepts introduced in BP4 but it was pretty much the same film

So I only watched it 3 times. In Slow mo for most of it.

=============================

I don’t think that is a good example. I happen to like ACWO but I can see why some would hate it, it was a ground breaking film that is bound to divide opinion. Thought provoking and different but a Marmite film none the less.

Shawshank on the other hand is just such a safe Hollywood film, a bit ‘meh’. While it has some qualities it is almost a film I’m indifferent to, it just doesn’t do much. The story is a bit basic and I think people get a bit bought in by Freeman’s gravely narration and a bit sentimental regarding the friendship between a black guy and a white guy in a time and place you’d not expect it. It has some redeemable features but it doesn’t really provoke much in me. As I said a decent enough film but clearly not one of the greats.

Of course people are entitled to their opinion but I suspect most who list it aren’t really and truly in to film and come from a certain demographic and would be predictable in their favourite of most things in popular culture.

Agree dunc, it's all about what you like really, I just never got the facination with the Shawshank.

What don't you like about A clockwork Orange? I know it's not a very popular film, I love Kubrick though IMO he's pretty much the best Director ever, he was a phtographer before he became a director and you can see it in every shot composition in his films, it's all so meticulous.

Any one seen the french film Uné Prophete?

It's absoululey amazing and would appeal to anyone who likes gangster movies.

That's fair enough Statman, like Bluedroog said above you can see why people don't like it.

I love it firstly cause Kubrick made it and it's so well shot, I love the shot of the crippled man downstairs when Alex is upstairs and the beethoven 9th symphony is playing, it's from underneath and the old lad is just shaking with anger, it's a great, great camera shot.

Also the language is brilliant in it, the mix between English and old Bolshevik Russian, although anthony burgess has to take credit for that.

And Malcolm McDowels performance is also great, I like what the movie says about society in general.

Koboutcka! Yarbuels! Yes, I picked up a bit of Russian from it.

Love the shot as the camera pans in on the at the Moloko milk bar.

For my sins the Mrs insists on watching CSI Miami (got my excuse in there) and only just realised one of the main lawyers to the crims is played by M McDowell.

Love the romp scene too when his licks her rocket in the record store, ‘you are invited!’ and the way the next scene is shot, one of the girls gets dressed and he undresses her again for round two.

'I was cured alright'.

HA yeah Bluedroog, also love the shot when they are walking along the side of the water and it's in slow mo, Alex looks so evil and angry but with a faint smile on his face after they tried to stop him being the leader, then he just turns around and cracks the big lad and cuts the other fella.

Next shot they're all back in the moloko "All righty right"

i loved the film the green mile too, another long film that seems to go quickly.

i read the book after seeing the film and the book is even better.

there is a book by steven king and it has 4 stories in it, the shawshank redemption, apt pupil, the body ( stand by me, another one of my faves as a kid) and another.

well worth the read if you like the films.

The Droog 'Dim' went on to do quite a lot of TV work in recent years such as Dalziel and Pascoe, Call the Midwife and Trollied. He was also in the football hooligan film ID with Rob Carlise.

My user name Blue-droog is actually a reference to ACWO, people always assume I’ve misspelt Drog because I’m a Chelsea fan

Impossible to choose a top 3, would go with a lot that have already been said;

Fight Club
Shawshank
American Beauty
Forest Gump
Casino
Pulp Fiction
Goodfellas

The Lord of the Rings trilogy collectively is by far the best though imo.
