hmmm, I'll save judgement on Rangers' transfer policy until ours starts bearing some fruit.
I think we were hoping to get the lad as cheap as possible, thinking he'd hold out for our bid being accepted. We were wrong.
If we'd offered the £2m straight up weeks ago we might have stood a chance, but it also looks like Dundee Utd wanted him to go anywhere other than us.
Anyway, I hope he does well for you, and for the national team thanks to the move.
Didn't you bid for him in like 2nd of June?
Seems crazy that we even got a chance to speak to him.
Alas scottish football is in such a financial position that we must try to get the best possible deal and take the risk on losing out on players. We especially need to get the best deals possible as we need more than just one good player.
Anyway, good luck with him. Keep him away from the Hens though, he tends to get a bit rapey around the chicks

Mcteeth- Every club was tentative until the case was dropped against him for rape. That was only a fortnight ago or so.
Before then we offered 2 bottles of Irn-Bru and a loan of our sky card when we're in Europe.

<lau..........oh wait, this one was true.
I read that rangers offer was over a few years , whereas blackburns was up front
do you think a 22 year year old from scottish football will solve blackburns goal scoring problem?
paddy power give 1/2 on steve keen not being blackburn manager by the end of the season.
think big sam will be having a punt on that, now that the knifes out his back.
could be we'll pick up goodwillie next year or the year after.

Congratulations on being about 10 months late with the most yawn worthy red top opinions.
Blackburn will be just fine thank you, and personally, we will surprise everyone this season, as everyone has got us down to finish bottom.
Big Sam can do as he pleases, pretty sure he will have his hands full of knives once West Ham fans get a taste of some very frustrating tactics.
Didnt realise he was a dundee player!!! And why the surprise we didn't want to sell him to rangers, would you sell your best player to celtic if blackburn offered you the same money?? Honestly its not rocket science.
I'm not even sure we'll make bottom McT.
Apparently Rovers bid was £2m + 800k in add ons, Rangers never went above £1.7m up front...

Depends how much they like the taste of getting promoted.
B&WH
Not having a dig at Sam, but West Ham do like to think of themselves as the inventors of World Cup winning total football.
If they are not top of the Championship, 1 long ball and a frustrating 0-0 at home they will be on the pitch after him...
We liked Sam and could appreciate his methods, I get the distinct impression West Ham won't be so accommodating.
Hmm, we liked him on here (or at least the majority did) but that didn't seem to be the case on most other rovers boards. I agree West Ham have a bad case of the pretentious history-of-good-football sickness but I think Rovers have a moderate one when you compare the adulation Allardyce had at Bolton to the lukewarm acceptance he got at Rovers.
True my good man. If they aren't top of the league I think the haters will grow by the day down there.
I think so - there were a lot of (in my mind) sensible West Ham posters saying that champagne football is a luxury not a necessity and they shoudl allow Allardyce time to demonstrate his winnign ability - if he couyld deliver that then they were saying he should be allowed to do it in whatever way he wanted.
OTOH - one of the responses from a 'card' was "hopefully he can get us promoted and then we can change him for a better manager'
Signs of delusion
Might I ask those who have witnessed for at least the last decade all the teams that have gained promotion from the Championship if they ever recall any of the sides ever playing the same or similar style of football consistently through a season as Allardyce does gaining promotion?
I can't think of a single side that came up that played cr4p football (despite some not managing to stay in the Premiership the following season).
Sheffield United, Wolves, Wigan, Us under Souness?
Any more required dusty
Surely none the same as Allardyce's depressing brand of football, and we actually played some decent football under Souness. Are you forgetting we won a League Cup during that spell?
Bolton? Under Allardyce? ~Didn't he keep them up as well the following season and do kinda ok in his time with them?
And whilst we won a Cup, it wasn't through scintillating football (as our League win wasn't) but winning football to me is good football.
Ah yes Bolton. So obvious I overlooked it entirely.
Portsmouth, Bradford...
I think you need a degree of physical and mental strength in football, probably moreso the physical in the Championship. Souness and Hughes probably got the balance right, Allardyce perhaps leans a little too far but then he's rarely had the luxury of a big budget.
Arsenal under Wenger is another example, lacking the balance of the team containing the likes of Vieira and Adams.
There's few teams on a small budget that have survived playing 'the beautiful game'. The likes of Wigan have been rather lucky and been dire at times, surviving is also a long way short of thriving...

And therein lies the biggest myth in football in my opinion. Tendency to use long-balls over short passes when starting an attack is surely a sliding scale, every team does it, its just how often they do it (10% of the time, 30%, 50%). There are plenty of teams out there around the same position on this scale as Allardyce's teams, there are even teams further towards the long-ball side.
But the media version which a depressing number of people seem to swallow is that Allardyce invented long-ball football, plays it 10 times more than his nearest challenger and his teams play it relentlessly at all times in all areas of the pitch. I'd say about half the teams that come up play "Allardyce's brand" but because their manager hasn't been tagged by the media yet as a long ball merchant the criticism is never levelled at them by fans.
Cause lets face it what do fans know about what goes on at other clubs? Barely anything, we can't be bothered to put in the research, just like opposition fans who still think Pedersen is a world beater and Dunn is our star player do with us. So because the media latched onto Allardyce being fat and upsetting Arsenal, and because they haven't found a good hook for other managers (there can only be one devil I suppose or it gets boring). This view has developed that Allardyce's football is miles worse than anyone elses. Its nonsense.
I agree with you 100%,we have always been the poor relations with the media, typical example was Steve Sherwood never played for England while he was Rovers captain.Moved to Spurs and was selected and played for england 3/4 weeks later. So Allardyce bashing was the trend,I wonder how he will be treated if West ham are champs.
